yesterday's meeting was a full house too. not standing-room-only like last November's, but every chair was taken yesterday.

yes, we have work to do to make sure the hardstand is re-established in the most effective way possible. it was a massive accomplishment to even get the board to listen. huge thanks to everyone who has put their time into this effort.

During its November business meeting, the board asked for two amendments to the plan which was presented to members, acknowledging the strong support in consultation feedback for a short-stay haul-out and hardstand facility for boat cleaning.

If commercially viable, the board will adjust the plan to keep approximately half of the previous hardstand area. This area would be for a smaller, flexible-use site for a short-stay haul-out facility to be used from May to December each year. The rest of the year it would be cleared and available for events and other activities.

The board has also decided, if feasible, to keep the existing filtration infrastructure and washdown pad to allow for a cost-recovery wash-down facility for small recreational boat users as they exit the sea-access ramp areas.

The next step is for an expression of interest process to hear from parties interested in establishing and running a commercial short-stay haul-out facility.

Why not year round? What will it be used for for the other 6 months?

‘No business was found whom could operate the hardstand feasibly for 6months of the year, so we have decided to keep it as a carpark all year round for RAYC users’

 

Can see this coming very quickly. Costs too much to train staff, own equipment etc for 6 months per year in a commercial environment

Interesting concept drawing -showing buildings for which there is no consent or application, strangely offering the Iwi parking for their Wakas , this was first offered by the developers of the 800 berth Wilkins and Davies marina which Akarana supported till the collapse of the project when we took it to appeal. Most of their Waka ama are left lying around there anyway -though strangely I have never heard them moaning about the hardstand cost unlike the keeler owners next door.
