Oneroa

Recommended Posts

Go anchor off Matenga point round by Blackpool.  Short walk to Oneroa, and well sheltered in NE-E-SE. Leave your dingy on the small beach under the trees on Matenga Point, as high as you can get it...

It depends on what your tolerance is to a slightly bumpy anchorage - forecast is light E at the moment swinging to SE overnight then fluctuating between E and SE  until Wednesday afternoon when it normally will swing to S . With those conditions it is doeable - not 100% ideal -if you do decide to anchor there make sure your pick is well dug in. Looking out there at the moment there are a couple of boats and it is mild. SE actually works ok there - just tuck up into the Little Oneroa end.....

Just check the swell forecast. I've been in Oneroa several times in an overnight SW, and had to get out of there because, despite the wind direction, there was a good sized northerly swell rolling in.

Always wary of overnight at Oneroa for this reason. Even if it's not that big, can be annoying.
