bigal.nz 59
I'm a bit cautious of Oneroa is any but South quarters. Tonight kids want Oneroa....but wind is slightly N of E for a time. Thoughts? (I was picking West Bay).
bigal.nz 59
Or maybe Owhanake bay.... But that I have heard can be rolly too.
Island Time 1,113
Go anchor off Matenga point round by Blackpool. Short walk to Oneroa, and well sheltered in NE-E-SE. Leave your dingy on the small beach under the trees on Matenga Point, as high as you can get it...
bigal.nz 59
I did think of that but committed to Nortern /Western coves now.
ex Elly 152
Owhanake will be fine if its easterly. Not so good if it goes north though.
1paulg 16
It depends on what your tolerance is to a slightly bumpy anchorage - forecast is light E at the moment swinging to SE overnight then fluctuating between E and SE until Wednesday afternoon when it normally will swing to S . With those conditions it is doeable - not 100% ideal -if you do decide to anchor there make sure your pick is well dug in. Looking out there at the moment there are a couple of boats and it is mild. SE actually works ok there - just tuck up into the Little Oneroa end.....
alibaba 67
Just check the swell forecast. I've been in Oneroa several times in an overnight SW, and had to get out of there because, despite the wind direction, there was a good sized northerly swell rolling in.
bigal.nz 59
Ended up West Bay. Fine here. Sail to Oneroa in AM for what ever the kids wanted there. @aliababa I agree. I often check wind and swell for Oneroa in particular.

Always wary of overnight at Oneroa for this reason. Even if it's not that big, can be annoying.
Terry B 59
Hmmm, where is this West Bay you speak of? Been tootling around Waiheke a long time but I don't recall a West Bay anywhere near Oneroa?
Terry B 59
Unless you mean West bay on Rakino?
