Yeah for days they were saying it wasn't leaking, now its leaking a little bit, now there is a stream of it but its going out to sea (as if that somehow makes it better?) - I know what comes next, look "its leaking and there is nothing more we can do". bigal.nz 60
I wonder if the dive pool became a problem once she started to list?

ex Elly 229
Oops another Autopilot grounding! HMNZS Manawanui sinking inquiry: Human error caused Navy vessel’s sinking, intital findings reveal Chief of Navy Rear Admiral Garin Golding said the direct cause of the grounding was because of a series of human errors, resulting in the ship’s autopilot “not being disengaged when it should have been”. He said the crew did not realise Manawanui remained in autopilot and, mistakenly believed its failure to respond to direction changes was the result of a thruster control failure. “Having mistakenly assessed a thruster control failure, standard procedures should have prompted the ship’s crew to check that the ship was under manual control rather than in autopilot. This check did not occur. Remaining in autopilot resulted in the ship maintaining a course toward land, until grounding and eventually stranding.” Judith Collins said the main thing was now getting on and sorting out the lessons from the incident, and not allowing it to happen again. “This has really knocked the Navy for six... But I don’t think anyone can fault the Navy for standing up and saying this is what happened. “We’ve had this sort of thing happen in the civilian world with ferries... I think what it says is that we’re not a country that is not going to shy away from the truth.” https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/hmnzs-manawanui-sinking-inquiry-defence-minister-judith-collins-navy-chief-reveal-initial-findings/WWJLDAKUS5ENPJKFCJASBPAX7M/ 1

waikiore 454
The really naughty thing is our Government working out that it is cheaper to pump a little diesel out and slip the local villages a few hundred thousand than actually salvaging the ship and taking it away which could easily (but expensively) be achieved by the likes of Smit Tak . She is not lying 30m deep as they keep saying.
