LBD 172
Okay guys... who are our off shore weather Gurus, Fiji to NZ and what do your forecast skills predict from 15th Oct onwards?

But wether or not it is weather I want to weather or weather that will make me wither is the question. First time Fiji to NZ... crewing only. Just trying to plan my work travel requirements around likely departure dates from Fiji after the 15th. I was just hoping some one here might also be watching the weather for this route and have some insights.

funlovincriminal 197
I'm heading up to bring a boat back but can't do it till after the Coastal Classic. Been watching these nice highs roll through, quite frustrating! You can bet that from Labour Monday it'll be shite 😅
Black Panther 1,719
My thinking (FWIW) goes like this. A fastish boat will leave in a SEly and do 170-180 miles per day. So in three days you are half way. It's the second half of the trip that is likely more unpleasant. So you are looking for days 3 to 7 to have nothing nasty. Unfortunately forecasts are seldom reliable past 3 days. So, leave when the forecasts suggest days 3 to 7 will be acceptable. Try to get an updated forecast at about 500 miles to go and decide to carry on or park until things improve. Don't sue me.

Jon 398
Did this gig last week, they’d already had a go and a few days out someone got up in the night and closed the window. So got a call, can you help pick the weather and sail back with us. Left last Monday,I’d been keen to leave early as possible but last crew landed at 1230hrs, I had a taxi waiting and we wheeled him into customs straight from taxi then onto boat. we cleared Navula Pass at 1700, by 2100 the trades started so with 20kts and moderate swell on beam we were off 1700 Tuesday we were 200nm south of the pass and 396nm by Wednesday As BP stated above Thursday evening had us halfway then the decisions actually started needing to be made “West is best” most of the models also said go west when the southerly kicked in. We tried this for two hours and it was sh*t so asked the crew if anyone was against trying the other board. Even though we were still at about 40’ apparent the angle to the waves was much kinder. So we had a day on the wind heading SE and then it died / motored for a day then the NW kicked in and we were able to reach into Auckland 6 days 21 hour from Navula to North Head. Good trip, owner happy. 1

darkside 65
I think Saturday is the 19th and that will be a pretty sporty first night
Jon 398
Usually is a bit sporty the first few days out due to wind funnel between Kadavu and Viti Levu then bending around the corner If your clearing out of Denarau I noticed the customs opening hours are Monday to Thursday, not saying you can’t check out at other times but I’d check Also weather routing this far out is nothing more than an educated guess on seasonal trends.
