Guest 132
I need to spray/brush something hard onto areas of high wear like turn of hull and deck and open transom that gets hammering. I can terminate on transition so I dont have to blend out. I have to get hauled next couple of weeks so wonder if I prep and spray with Durapox white with clear over or go whole hog and spray gelcoat from NZ fibreglass (maybe with duratec additive to make it flow out a bit) and then wet sand it back? I guess gelcoat would be longest lasting solution? Done a few miles of wetsanding polishing over watercraft in past, so under no delusion. But a bit rusty. Topsides are International 2p (interspray 900 from memory) deck is gelcoat, with 50mm radius to TS.
Psyche 794
Gelcoat is tough, it's not paint and its a one and done application. Durepox is very tough but its still paint, will not last like gelcoat but will be easier to apply. I brushed on gelcoat for a similar job, very happy with the result.
LE Bb 31
Durepox with accelerator goes pretty hard and durable, gelcoat or flowcoats are a pain in the arse. you could also try duratec from ATL
Frank 166
Normally I wouldnt use an Epoxy paint that has direct exposure to UV but this Durapox looks to be different, its some sort of Urethane/epoxy hybrid, I havent heard of it before, might try it sometime.
Guest 132
Apparently most of the UV inhibitor is in the clear. Its a primer and top coat all in one, but comes out satin, so if you want a gloss, clear over; or mix in 25% and do all at once. Also takes acrylic lacquer over readily. I remember doing multistages of prep, 410 fairing compound, hi build interlux surfacer and lastly tie coat but the Altex 2P topcoat. (15yrs ago) It didnt stick very well as it turns out. I ran out of interspray 900 and they didn't sell 1L. 4L was like $400. What ever I do has to be thick and be adhesion tested. I'd wager the durapox will adhere better than polyester gelcoat. Hopefully I will just have to sand off tiecoat. (15yrs yro) Perhaps i should do a couple of coats of interprotect for adhesion guarantee. Anybody know if gelcoat sticks to interprotect? LE Bb 31
Durepox is the best adheiring paints we have ever used, kind of a one hit wonder. The only down fall is antifouling doesn't like sticking to it, but primercon fixes that. Yes it's a urethane, so it doesn't yellow like epoxy primers.
Guest 132
And you can patch and polish?

I did a small patch and colour matching was a pain theres white and theres white. in the end resin n paint. Next time will look at durepox, apparently adheres well.
