Black Panther 1,819
Has anyone else noticed a lot of them around lately. Seems every time we come out lately we see one. Just had a big bronzie circle us here in Bon Accord.
BNG 56
Go back 20 odd years id see one or two over 6 months of summer cruising. Then it became 5 a year and now it can be couple in a day. I've definitely noticed an increase.
chippie 6
Same. Used to see them very rarely, now it's not unusual at all.
Zozza 372
Less food out in the deep, so moving inshore looking for a tasty yachtie's leg to munch on?
Psyche 913
Typically you have to step over them if you want to have a swim at Barrier i.e if you really looked for one you can almost guarantee to see a bronzy cruising around but this year there were almost none over December/January. Kawau usually has a few big residents but this year none for us but the lack of them earlier in the season could have because it was so fresh from the SW?
Jon 413
It’s what happens when you make them protected Hearing similar things in the pacific islands such as Niue, they used to take out the larger old sharks but 15yrs of shark protection and you now can’t get fish past them on the FADs
Black Panther 1,819
So is an increase in shark numbers a goid thing or a bad thing. I might try to find out

One guy who we never saw again when the political stuff was banned was that eRice fella. I don't miss him, and after initially being against the removal of political chat, I have to admit it has been a good thing for this site. Edit: I do hope KnotMe comes back one day though. Also back on Sharks - according to Google's AI.....In 2024, humans are estimated to have killed approximately 100 million sharks for their meat, fins, oil, and cartilage, as well as those unintentionally caught as bycatch in fishing nets.
