ex Elly 268
The national governing body for sailing, which was founded in 1875, has suggested that it should instead be replaced with “person in water” in an inclusive language guide. Princess Anne regularly visits sailing clubs across the UK to mark milestones, chairs almost every RYA annual general meeting, and shows her support for the British Sailing Team. Another term the RYA tells its members to avoid is “seamanship”, with people told to use “boat handling”, “navigation”, “deck work” or “maintenance” as replacements. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2025/09/13/royal-yachting-association-man-overboard-person-in-water/
