IMESS 0
Hi all We are looking at getting a berth in Westhaven and have a few to choose from. I have heard that there are preferences with regards to E/W orientation, proximity to motorway, etc but not actually what would be considered preferable and why. Could any Westhaveners please educate me briefly on what would constitute a 'good' berth in the marina? Cheers,
CarpeDiem 563
We used to be on the far end of Q and got moved closer to the motorway - that resulted in a lot more road grime (tire dust) landing on the boat - it was very noticeable but then we got used to it.
ex Elly 274
Get a berth which is close to the gate. Saves a lot of time walking up and down the pier. 1
motorb 56
Head down this week and see which areas have sufficient parking..... being close to the gate is always nice, but not much use if you're parked at the other end of the marina! 1
Jonquil 533
Boat facing west assuming prevailing wind is westerly You can sit inside with the washboards out when the weather is crap You can often raise sails in light breezes to check them Morning drinks are in the sun Boat facing east You can open the hatch and get breeze/sun into the boat after sailing Backing into the berth is upwind Afternoon drinks are in the sun Motorway dust will get you everywhere, even on the piles. As said, you soon get sick of walking to the end and just as sick of parking miles away.
