Sounds like they were pretty onto it in terms of actions taken.

MartinRF, yes watertight compartments are great in principle, but complex, hard to live with in small boats, and expensive in the build?

A great idea though, for sure.

Or maybe with a major leak in an engine room, keeping going with sterns to weather may not have been the best possible plan. How about heave to, and try to contain it. The water level in that engine room was above sea level, it was being forced in by pressure of water flow under way??
