I have a feeling it will be a disappointing finish. I don't think Camper can pull another 5 knots out of their arse like Vodafone did. Still, there are a few hours left and the tri could get lost again like they did at the start.

Actually, it might not be as disappointing as I thought. Vodafone is having to go quite deep to get this speed, wheras Camper is headed straight for the finish. I can see the tri having to sail at least 10 degrees higher and if they leave it too long Camper might just have an edge.

Haha BE ya should have waited for the 1500 update... quarter of a mile extension to camper, despite averaging slower over the past half hour, heading? or dodgy tracking? who know but its cool.

Agree that vodafone can pull 5 kts out of the blue sky tho. Im entertained so all is good.

Squid one thing tho, that stupid cat sailor starts up everytime i come on crew.

From TVS Facebook page 15minutes ago

"‎16nm to Camper (18knots), sitting on 31knots currently. 80nm to go."

Camper also posted saying

"CAMPER with Emirates Team New Zealand is engaged in a race to the finish of the Auckland-Musket Cove race with the big Vodafone trimaran hot on its heels.

As Thursday progressed, CAMPER’s hard-earned lead, that at one point stretched to 174 miles, was slowly whittled away as the multihull put on the pace in the following wind.

The first days of the race were sailed in light to moderate head winds, better conditions for monohulls. CAMPER led the fleet from Auckland, painstakingly stretching a small advantage into a comfortable lead. But yesterday, when Vodafone got into the south-east trades, the nature of the race changed. Vodafone picked up speed and started the relentless pursuit of CAMPER.

It was exactly the conditions that worried the CAMPER crew. Navigator Will Oxley was not entirely happy on the second day of the race when CAMPER had just over 100-mile lead on Vodafone. He said: “Our main competition, Vodafone, has continued on a north-east route. They look to have had some light winds and they are now 105nm further from the finish than us.

“I think we need about a 160nm lead when Vodafone enters the trades to hold them off for the last 36 hours. So, even though 105 looks like a good lead, having raced against the Orma 60 trimarans in the Atlantic, it’s still not enough!”

Will it be enough. We will all have the answer later today."

Looks like its gonna be real close, LiveTracking currently has them only .5knt boat speed difference to TVS's advantage with 15Nm seperation.

vb has picked up 5nm on camper in the last half an hour. 25.9kts compared to 17.3 with an 11nm seperation and 77 and 66nm to go respectively.. hmm no brainer really..

What keeps it entertaining is when you refresh Yellowbrick and see that TVS is now showing as doing 19.3 and the calculator comes out all over again...

haha nah murky ya gotta catch up.. we got a couple of different programmes running, taking historical forecast / boat speed data and trying to work out the next update, none of them work.. so it just turned into a drinking game.

Thats what happens when 4 engineers try and study together apparently....

Seconds in it. (atleast its less than 3 hrs to go now  )

TVS down to 16.7kts on their on tracking site. That won't get them past Camper.

Looking back at the tracker progress.... 48hrs ago Wired was only 45NM behind Camper and they were 55NM ahead of TVS. Now Wired is 300NM behind both of them. Damn these things are fast!
