Thanks IT... yes you are right, as an assembly they are not that commonin NZ... the engine it-self is very common in NZ and around the world hundreds of thousands if not millions... The engine I am not concerned about, it is the super reliable ubiquitous ... S4L2-61SD-NP2 Industrial Engine | Mitsubishi Engine that has been around for yonks... The marine adaption is where I am focusing. The marinization looks good... no anodes required, all copper nickel cooling system, 6 year global warranty and cast bronze exhaust mixer... and they are getting more popular in Australia.... I only read good reviews from those who have them installed. Next month my cousin who is also a marine engineer as well as a sailer, will go visit the factory and give me his opinion (He lives close)...I will post his comments.... He is a Volvo fan so will be interesting. I think where they miss out, is the lack of technical support in NZ..... which is not a problem for me, and the name. And if others are like me, they may look at the name and jump to the same Asian manufacture conclusion I did and just glance over them. We will see, I will size it up against all the usual alternatives before deciding.

The issue would likely be what parts are used in the marinisation, and what ancillaries are used, and what availability is like. Servicing in remote locations could be an issue if they have changed things like fuel or oil filters. And a world wide warranty is likely worthless if there are no local agents.... Thanks for the words of caution... I have checked all that out... everything is bog std Mitsi, filters, fuel pumps etc... It is only the seawater pump (and I will have a spare) and heat exchanger (will have a seal kit)/ exhaust manifold and a quieter air intake that are the only engine components that are aftermarket. Drive plate and transmission are the TMC260 from Twin Disc. I am leaning towards the opinion that these may be one of the better quality marine engines out there.... for certain only time will tell. Will let you know Cuzzies opinion when the time comes.
