Nice looking lines on the beast, the superstructure detracts a bit but I guess you have to have somewhere to fit all the fat rich pricks.

There is a boat coming in on MOnday called 'Triple Seven'.. anyone heard of it?

50 something meter stinkpot, originally owned by a Russian mafia dude, now owned by a Russian steel magnate. (He is very secretive but everyone seems to know). Crew also have there own chef!! 777 was the build number. You would think with all that money they could have given it a name.

777 has been berthed by the tank farm for the last few weeks.

EOS is a British boat, owner undisclosed although rumoured to be Barry Diller, media exec. Shame about the earlier comment 'rich pricks'. Why? If he's such a prick how come he's got the 300ft superyacht?

You know full well exactly what I'm saying. The automatic assumption that the boat will be full of rich pricks. Rather than rich people with maybe the odd prick. In my various experience I've met no higher proportion of 'pricks' amongst the 'rich' than I have amongst 'normal' people. It's just the assumption that all rich people are pricks that irks me.

Too good an opportunity to let pass

I have to admit that where we have shared an anchorage with one of these monsters we haven't found the crew or owners to be particularly "friendly".

Grow a sense of humour AC, it was a tongue in cheek stab at some members of our dear departed government. We are superyacht agents in Fiji and deal with (and socialise with) these guys a lot. Some are right tossers but the bulk are petty good people, crew & owners alike.

Nah, I'm with AC, I've met too many gentlemen in the very rich category to go with that. I think we all need to realise that to the vast bulk of the population, anyone who owns a yacht is seen as a rich prick, All a bit tongue in cheek I'm sure though AC.

We play a lot with the Superboat dudes and can assure you most are well rich and some are indeed right Aholes. But the ratio of Aholes to nice people is bugger all different than it is in the Squaddy or any Yacht Club around the traps, actually possibly less Aholes, he says thinking of one or 2 specific places.

Kids of way rich pricks, sadly I'd have to say the Ahole to nice ratio isn't anywhere as good in that area. Seen some shocking attitudes and actions there. But again it's knot a blanket thing, many of the kids are damn nice people. And some just live a lifestyle where they just don't know much about the average dude life so say and do things they just don't realise that could attract a Ahole type comment.

I get called a rich prick boat owner often but as I'm knot rich it's only 2/3rd right.

They reckon that the difference between the rich and the poor is that the rich respect the rich, while the poor resent the rich.

There's probably a lot of truth in that statement. If you spend all your time looking at someone wealthier than you (and believe me there are plenty of wealthy people about) thinking "you bastard, you don't deserve all that" then you gain nothing from them. But if you look at someone wealthier than you and think "wow that's awesome, what can I learn from you that I can use to make myself wealthier?" then you're more likely to have a healthier bank balance.

Its the same kind of difference between people content to sit on the benefit and get handed everything and those who get out and work to make a better life for themselves. Just because someone's rich doesn't automatically make them a prick.

Good post Grinna.

Building on that, some cultures (typically western) are centred on always looking upwards and coveting what people 'above' them have e.g. you have a 35ft yacht and you constantly dream of a 45ft yacht rather than focus on the fact you are doing very nicely compared to the guy with a 25ft yacht. A buit simplistic but makes the point. In other words those cultures give very little positive thought to what you have today, rather they focus on the nagtive aspects of what you don't have.

Whereas other cultures focus down not up i.e. they think "I might not love my pair of shoes but at least I have some, whereas the guy I just walked past in the gutter has none."

On the flip side, you could argue that one of the key driving factors behind evolution of Man has been his propensity to always live one step beyond his means - which tends to focus the mind towards 'betterment'. Whatever that means.....

Fack, I think I need a drink!
