Just got in at 1.45PM. Missed Bathurst start, darn. Oh well.

Removed the old genset, measured up for new frame for new genny. Never simple is it. Will Have to reroute the main tanks Balancing fuel lines and it is going to be a tight squeeze but it should go in OK. Fitted new Raw water strainer and found I was short one adaptor. Made a new mounting bracket for the pump and now it is fitted in a different orientation to get rid of stupid bends and impossible to get at bolts.

My annual day of restful watching the action at Mt Panorama, the Aussies organise it well so that we can get a few things done in the morning then Superlarge brekky

and on couch till the end, use the add breaks to get some uv and look at all the fizzies in the channel-- fish must be coming in, nice to think of the water warming up opening day next week at the Milford boozing club !

went out on a newly acquired 88 to do the owners nationals. first time we have raced the boat so we put an L plate on the back. surprised ourselves by not coming last in race 2,3,4,5 and 6

thing we learned.

-sails are f**ked for lack of a better word

-bow is too heavy with the anchor winch on it

-we dont know how to make them point

-our kite looks bloody small from on the boat when looking at others

-foredeck crew is awesome compared to some others

Did you buy voodoo?

a mate got voodoo. what gave it away?

played with the rig for the last race. quite pleased to round the first top mark in 5th....with sails measured in 98. would that make us the first pannel headsail to the first top mark in R8? the rest was a bit average

also glad another boat told us we could take off the L plate now.

we'll take a first on h/cap in race 8 as our glory for the weekend.

My brother ownes Sweeny Todd and we looked at buying voodoo but couldnt move our boat in time. She is a nice boat. Young 88s are easy to sail but hard to sail fast. Ask lots of questions and try heaps of things and you will be up in the pack. If that dosent work, throw a few thousand at it :D

Friday we managed tio get 80Kg of old Genny off and 105Kg of new genny back onto the boat. We were going to head out to meet Shanson, but ran out ot time, so left early Saturday morning. Arrived at Motahei to find Shanson and crew at Anchor needing a new Fuel filter. A slight oops with a fuel valve meant an old disused tank foulded the filter. New filter, bled system and off we went. A good 18kts gave us a fantastic sail across to Maharangi. Last night we watched the nail biter of a game and this morning we motored home. Fantastic time.

Cut out the seats for the rowboat, finished gluing the bottom plank (after nearly a year of doing nothing)

Pulled out the proa bits that need a bit of work to get started on them .

Did some yacht race to Russell? Then turned around and motored home, Meant to get to kawau. had an oppsie and hit a big wave, outboard went crashing into the sea. Next thing in Tutukaka rebuilding the outboard and then headed home via Kawau to watch the oval ball get kicked around!

Huge weekend and a great tour! Sleep time now...

Laminated the new mast tube for WT, cooked and released that, laminated another mast tube for a mates 26ft IRC boat bound for France, then stuck another mast back together. So pretty much spend 3 days sticking on and rubbing down prepreg. Just like in the old days....

Found a boat drifting off Tutukaka without a motor, the skipper offered a tow. Last seen drifting towards the marina under headsail and paddle power.
