Lets see how Dangezone, Panama Jack and Sister Moonshine are matching up. 1 good helms man does not make a winning 88 ...

Correct but 6 pro AC sailors do....................

P.S. GO the SONIC!!

Great day on the water, 12-18kts most of the day. Flash gordon has cleared out to a handy lead, fast boat and sailed very sharp.

The youth program team on Sister moonshine in 2nd with some good results.

Not sure of the rest of the placings but in the top 5 would be panama jack, raging hormones, danger zone and also us on the Sonic. We are stoked with how we went today in an overweight old mk1!

Now enjoying a rum on the way in.

I have heard that some boats may have had issues with the safety inspection. Will see latter. We passed easy.

Long motor in.

We raced around Rangi today and did our level beat to avoid the 88 fleet by rock hopping along the rangitoto coast. Managed pretty well and was really impressed with the fleet. Looked like pretty serious stuff. Unfortunately one of our number must have have been blind and charged through the middle so I apologise for him, a bit embarrassing from where we were sitting. As it was a couple of 88's dumped on him which helped us out big time. I don't think a 40' Hanse would have been that welcome in amongst it all.

It was great racing out there today. The last race took about an hour to get underway since we had a number of fleet recalls and ships coming through. Very close racing and there was very little in it between the first and the last. One mistake and you are out the back.

A bit disappointing that some 88's did not pass cat 4 inspections for what I consider minor issues and were disqualified for the day. I am looking forward to a little more breeze tomorrow and some more close racing.

Yeah today we were out just past rangi light. Its good viewing and you are bounnd to see some carnege at some stage! It took us 5 attempts to get the last race away today and with 2 black flag general recalls!.

So after a quick check of the official results at the squaddy it apears we managed to jag a 3rd overall after 5 races with 3 races tomorrow.

Hopefully the forecast of stronger breezes comes thru for us, we seem to go better in the breeze.

GO THE SONIC!!

Great day on the water, Agree with the guys saying one mistake and your back about 5 places! Did that a few times today but was great close racing! Who failed inspection today? Are there up to date results around?

Panama Jack failed for not having a boltcutter - a bit tough I think. I believe there were 3 88's that failed because of the boltcutters.. Split decision retired as well not sure why they did.The only set of results I have seen was at the Squadron after the race, but toooo much detail...

What a pity after all the preparation to get into a regatta like this to forget (well i hope it was forgetfulness) a pair of bolt cutters and have to withdraw... Everyone knew there were going to be inspections so the gear had to be there so im sure no one did it trying to cheat. Unfortunate for those crews...

Controversy!

You don't need bolt cutters for Cat 4,

You need a "means of clearing the rig" should it fail.

This can be, and has been approved for Cat 3, a hacksaw with 12 blades and a hammer and drift, and plyiers, all on leashes so are usable in a situation when the rig goes over the side and the baot is pitching like a cazy woman.

Oh, and the crew must the familair with the gear.

So if you get a rock star crew and don't brief them on all of the safety gear on the boat,

and get inspected

Where are you getting that from, Fish? I agree with your logic and have been on board when a rigger tidied up a felled rig in a matter of minutes with hammer, punch and pliers, so would always choose that method myself.

But the written version doesn't seem to allow that discretion.

Bolt cutters on my boat = tits on a bull

Ever tried cutting rod rigging with boltcutters? There's no way I could do it as I ain't built like Erle Williams!!

Can you cut Dieform with them?

Of course the 88s use 1x19? But don't they use rod forestays?

Bit silly to go into major regatta without ALL the gear tho
