Last Friday - blowing 35 - 40 SW

We averaged 12 knots to Kawau last friday, top of 17 under main only and with an inflatable, spare 6hp, dive gear, 200l of water, 40l of fuel and 5 days food and booze.....

We were heading to Barrier but the weather didnt really play ball for us as the day went on so Kawau/Waiheke it was for 5 days . A bit of fun though.

Tidy! Go the mighty Elliott 7.4 as you say.

The only thing that could have made it better would have been if you had caught a fish as well but you had way too much pace on!

Yep the Rapala lures trip up a bit at that speed. It got pretty rough and was blowing 45 round Tiri so fishing wasnt an option but was discussed.

So thats just over 2 hrs to Kawau, nice work, not a bad ride at all! must have been good fun.

we thought we were doing well in the High Voltage doing it in 2hrs 20 in the night race to kawau (squaddy weekend) with a few bursts of 16 kts on the way.

It was really blowing Boo Boo, was 35 gusting 40 at Bean Rock when we left - 40 gusting 45 at Tiri and a perfect angle. The first 3/4 was reasonably flat with some nice waves to catch the later part a decent swell had built up so some loooong sustained bursts. The 17 kts peak was on the GPS so probably a bit quicker as its an average of a few seconds (the log/speedo has a couple of broken fins on the little wheelie thingy)

The Gybe into Bon Accord for the drop was reasonably interesting.

Would have been more fun without the extra 450kg of dive gear, inflatables spare outboards etc.

We were very happy though.

...A short time later, through Tiri and heading into Motuketekete.

Most fun cruising in a long while.

Shame we got such a hiding in Tuesday on the way home...
