This was a great night with talks, vids, pics by Sally and Rob, Charles, Chris, Kurt and Matt and Cameron all recounting different aspects of the RNZ in very individual ways.

Thanks to Steve Ashley and the RYC for a good crowd and lovely dinner.

The highlight for me was Kurt's humour countered by Matt's matter of fact way of describing their dire circumstances, how they survived and kept Pelagian 2 afloat. Awesome work guys.

My brief recollection of the presentations:

Coppelia What they did to prepare themselves and boat for the race ie 2+ years on the water, 4mths solid on the boat, why they went into Golden Bay

Vingilot How they pushed the Cav, what they found hard

Truxton The freshly finished vid, back up talk about sails, what you can achieve when 2 mad keen racers know their boat really well and how to turn your yacht into a submarine. Loved that.

PelagianHow bad you can feel after 3days of sea sickness, what its like when you get that sinking feeling in a big storm, what Kurt and Matt did to find/fix the exhaust hole, pump water, stay afloat and alive, how good you can feel after surviving all they did let alone finish the race.

Surreal The welcome haka and benefits of getting to Stewart Island first, enjoying the race

What caused the problem on Pelagian? A few years ago when they converted the transom to walk-through, a tube was cut under the cockpit. This is the tube that contains the exhaust pipe. And they discovered that when your cockpit lockers and cockpit is full of water, that water can come in quite quickly there.
