City of Sails?

What sort of crap is this that our Icon of Auckland 'City of Sails' is to be replaced by a pohutakawa flower.

Just another set of tree hugging politically correct bureaucrats embarrassed with the 'Rich White man sailing his extravagant yachts'

After sailing round the gulf on Sunday the icon of 'City of Sails' has far more meaning to me than the 'City of the Pohutokawa Flower'

(But then again, I guess I'me one of those Rich? White men sailing his extravagant yacht)

:wtf: :wtf:

Another stupid decision. WTF makes a Pohutukawa a symbol of Auckland. They grow everywhere. Why not Rangitoto, some other volcanic peak, sails, bean rock lighthouse, even the bloody bridge or skytower would be better or how about be honest and a bloody great endless traffic jam

how about an image of one tree hill without the tree

or how about this - a selection of logos that have drawn public support get put onto a sheet of paper that is mailed out with the voting papers and the people actually get to vote on the logo when the election for the super city takes place.

A small delay but at least the 'people' would get what the majority wants, rather than some pathetic symbol that seems to mean jack shite to most

This one is easy:

Step 1: While the people are arguing about the logo, they are not arguing about the many ways in which they are going to be shafted.

Step 2. Eventually acknowledge the hue and cry, and bow to the collective wishes of the people over the logo issue. Concede that it was a mistake and fire (secretly pay out) everyone involved. Then take the position that as the logo was clearly the most important aspect - and that the views of the people were allowed to prevail - the shafting can now proceed without further ado.

If you think I'm mocking Aucklanders, I'm not. You should see what goes on up here.

Rigger - That is the way it was decided. Obviously you missed out on being consulted.

bugger, must have been when I was unconscious in hospital....

Now at least you are able to recognise that it is your fault.

Hope that speeds up your recovery :D

Theres a point on the north-western motorway between Patiki and Rosebank Roads where the harbour bridge lines up perfectly with Rangitoto Island. I showed my son the other day and last night, without any further mention of it, he produced this logo for Auckland

I think it is 1000 times better than the logo the council spent thousands on.

I know the spot well SD, always try not to slow down for it. Ask your son how much he wants for it.

Another good transit has disappeared. The Auckland hospital used to have a large SHARP sign on the roof. From the southern end of the Newmarket Viaduct you could line up the top half of the Sky Tower above the middle of the sign. Sort of a hot air balloon warning.
