Hoping the weather holds for the next few days so we can finish undrecoating, priming, and antifouling the boat before this simrad race! (Yes we got a bit on...)

Hopefully going in the water on Friday if all goes well and it doesnt rain too much!

What needed doing to the boat after the run in with marshys rock?

There was a little bit of damage to the bulb, few scrapes etc. And the Fairing around the keel to Hull Joint had cracked. So we elected to drop the keel off and re-bed it to the hull. Typically being a boat the job list grows and while it was off we decided it was the right thing to replace all the bolts and nuts and washer plates in the boat so that its good for another fair while. But now we are working our ring off to get the Keel to Hull fairing faired up and ready to paint, then painted and back in the water. Luckily nothing structural on the hull was wrong so that was a good outcome. And now the boat is back stronger and better than before.

Just got to remove the Keel nuts now and back fill the bolt holes with Glue, then put on the new nuts and washer plates etc and do it all up, and Undercoat, and Primer the Join. Then Anti-foul the whole boat, then load all the sails and safety gear back in and we are good to go!

Fingers crossed the weather holds up and doesn't halt productivity!

Just a reminder that entries for the B&G Simrad 60 close TODAY !

And for those racing... MAKE SURE YOU COMPLETE THE RADIO SCHEDS (both after passing Gannet Rock and 1 hour prior to finishing) and use the appropriate channels !

Also just a FYI the Committee boat will be Infinity the sailing cat that's been used in the past.

But it will be the one anchored on the end of the line with the flags flying and a dodgy guy with the camera and a dangerous dude with a gun on board.

What bollocks. I watch both dudes with that gun and they had over 300 slow moving targets pass just in front of them that day. Neither one hit squat diddly

Hiya

Just wanted to let you know that the Sailonline virtual version of this race is now open for registration and pre-race practice.

With the start @2100utc on Friday, you have a couple of days to practise (tell all your friends and relos who aren't on the water to come and check us out!)!!

Log in as the sol boat if you aren't sure you want to race, you can always snoop at the course and the weather (NOAA Grib files, 6-hourly forecast, rolled out in 10min updates). The weather zone is deliberately larger than needed so folks can get a sense of what is a-lurking :-)

Login credentials couldn't be simpler:

USERNAME: sol

PASSWORD: sol

NB the sol boat can't chat!!

Hope to see a healthy number of NZL entries to keep the rest of the world on their toes!

From Boating NZ facebook page

SIMRAD SERIES PHOTO COMPETITION

Boating New Zealand will have photographer Will Calver out on the Hauraki Gulf for Saturday's B&G Simrad Two-Handed Triple Series race. But we also want to share your on-board fun. So, in between trimming and tactics, snap a shot or two and post it to Boating NZ's Facebook page

(before Wednesday Aug 15th) and be in to win a 12-month subscription to NZ's favourite boating mag and whatever other goodies we can find in the prize cupboard. The best shot/s may even find there way into our September issue alongside Will's selection. You mightn't win on Saturday, but imagine the kudos of having a your shot featured in our bumper Auckland On Water Boat Show issue! In the meantime, check out Will's shots from the Simrad 50 on boatingnz.co.nz

Good luck for Saturday from the crew at Boating NZ.

The one nearest the middle of the channel is officially Navy Buoy. Probably a bit late now...

Had a call from Marshall Law around 1pm. Had rounded the Gannet and headed to Flat Rock, alongside Truxton and still smarting from a collision with Outlaw.20 kn just forward of the beam and loving it.

Been a few withdrawals.

XL the 40ft Cat.

No Worries the 930

Kia Kaha, knot the 52 the smaller one.

and I wouldn't be at all surprised if that list grows a lot, she's a tad rugged out there.

All got a good start though and they must be having one hell of a good fun run home.

Wow, epic race on the rattle n rum. A painfull beat to ganet for us but we held our own ok. Nice frac gennaker ride to tiri sitting on 10-16kts, ride from tiri to home was off the scale. Sitting on 15+ kts probably up to 18-20 kt bursts at times. Overtook pepe but then had to drop at takapuna and 2 sail to the finish and they just rolled us at cheltenham and got us by 10 boatlengths. We beat all the 1020s and S34s across the line.

Such a fun race. Did all we could but pepe was just so much faster 2 sailing. Well done to them for a good race.

Epic race on Fast Company too. Pretty much what booboo said, we lead R&R upwind but sat back and watched them fly on the reach to tiri. Tried to hang onto their wake by 3 sail reaching but happy that we were putting time on the rest of the fleet.

The ride from Tiri home was awesome, don't think we dropped below 10 knots, say on 11-12 most the way and maxed at 16.5.

Well done R&R, you guys sailed well. Not too worried about the other 930 competitor, I think quite a few boats witnessed their shortcut inside Iliomana beacon, but will leave that for the protest committee to decide (shame though as they were fast upwind and left us for dead)
