Coastal classic updates

oh yea. The progress times are now up and running

V5 is flying up the coast being off flat rock at 12:53 with a half hour lead over bear essentials which they had a great fight with last year. Surprisingly they are in the same area as Taeping who reported in just after them which is a little surprising as I would have thought that Taeping being a slightly heavier multi would be able to sail a bit harder than the others. Unfortunitly none of the other big boats and the bulk of the fleet have reported in as they must have a lot on.

By the way... Bare Essentials was raced by the (part of) Kia Kaha crew last year... and I am still waiting to hear from the NOW

Fantastic viewing of the start from North Head. A big puff went through about the same time the first division reached the corner and started to gybe. Total chaos, with Ran Tan on her ear for over a minute until the tack blew out of the gennaker.

Timberwolf is out there with a flag at the top of the mast - the small remaining head of her gennaker.

Starlight Express disappeared past Northern Leading trying to clear a big wrap up.

All you could hear on the hill was "starboard" and snapping of the loose sails.

Any news from the Ross 40s? Pretty boy Floyd? Looks like a great race this year. Wish I was there!! Certainly looks like Marshall Weather...

Only reports are from Sat spy and Urban cowboy from flat rock several hours ago with sat spy leading urban cowboy by 6-7 minutes depending on when the boats reported in.

and from pulse via zoe on the coastal classic site.

Pulse has reported in from Sail Rock, sailing with deep reefed main and no headsail. It is 'quite' windy, apparently. Here is a pic from aboard the boat with no boom:

Tim sent a pic in with the text so go over and check it out.

Vodafone have tacked and are chewing up the miles to the finish now. can they still pull a rabbit out of the hat and finish in the next 25 minutes to set a new record?

From the Zoe site:

Rudder damage has caused the giant slayer Overload, to pull into Whangarei.

We are not surprised. Hullabaloo hoisted its Code 7 for four minutes almost precisely, when the 15 knot breeze piped up to 30, and the halyard parted. After a quick retrieve, they are bounding along under their No. 3. Thanks Anne for the update!
