Route 66 Race

Did someone post 50+ photos of the start on Facebook?

I flicked through some this morning but I can't find them now.

Found them :)

I did enjoy the look on peoples face on Saturday morning as they were getting ready to head home, when they asked when we were heading off and I replied "My wife drove up with the trailer and we have a Bach booked for the weekend."

I was one of those people but the 11 hour return trip was enjoyable, although the lack of sleep made for interesting mind games when approaching Auckland after dark!

We pulled out at Tiri around 4pm, one of the crew had a wedding in AKL on Saturday so we weren't into a morning finish.

The start and to Rangi light was promising then very slow going at 1-2 knots often in the wrong direction with the code 0 up.

5 minutes after pulling the pin a mate called to say hang in there , 20kts of SW just came through Westmere.... But we were already motoring to gulf harbour.

Been at Rakino since then ,currently at Onetangi having extended long weekend.

Yes, pity there's no results. Oh well. Guess everyone's caught up with the timber wolf dimasting at Rodney on the way home. Sad to see.

Any results anywhere ?

Received an email via the Onerahi Yacht Club mailing list today with the results attached as htm files...bit lost on how to make them available to everyone :eh: tried saving them as pdfs but the file size is too large to post here!

Anyone who wants them - if they haven't appeared elsewhere in the meantime - is welcome to PM me with an email address and I will just forward the email.

This is the best I can do, hope this is okay for now

Was nice to see so many boats cross the finish line after the light winds that were had at the start. Kawau can be a bit of a hurdle if the conditions are not right

Hope to see you all again next year

Send them to Markm and then at least they'll be on racetrack!

Good suggestion - I have forwarded them to him now (in addition to what has been posted above).

What a fantastic race this turned out to be.

Full marks to the organisers, you get all the success you deserve.

56 boats in total counting both fleets is just outstanding.

Its a brilliant race being an introduction to longer coastal races but at only 66 miles and not needing Cat 3.

The locals are just so awesome and kind to run us round.

It is the best spirit in a race I have ever experienced, not many after parties carry on til after 330 in the morning.

we had an accident on the way home but everybody stopped to offer assistance which was just awesome, we are both very grateful for that.

I would love to do this race again and can't recommend it highly enough !

Yes a Great Race! Well organised and run. A big congratulations and thanks to the Yacht Clubs and organisers of the event.

A fun race on Pulse. We got an ok start, and were doing well until I made a couple of bad calls off Kawau and watched many boats go by. A bit of patience for the new breeze, we got the kite back up and worked our way back up the fleet.

A great reach across Bream Bay, with the Nav lights making the spray glow. Finished third overall (I think), and by the look first multihull on handicap. Made all that work building new sails worthwhile!

A big thanks to my lovely lady crew, who did very well in the trying conditions!

We'll be back. Great venue, race length and time of year.

If only it didn't clash with the Around Waiheke so we could get more multihulls involved, as that is the other big race of the year's circuit

PS: Very sad to see Timberwolf being towed after their dismasting. They did an exceptional race, and Tim W had the boat looking so good.
