Try something different: regatta venue best Sou-West sailing in Auckland

The Manukau Harbour is vast, immensely tidal, and virtually empty of traffic, and with a clear run for the prevailing South-Westerly, can offer exceptional and challenging sailing. French Bay Yacht Club invites sailors to cross Auckland for its annual regatta, to take place on Sunday 10 February.

“If it's anything like last year, the French Bay Regatta will be one of the best events on the calendar,” says club Commodore Matt Hall Smith of the event that in 2012 attracted more than 60 boats including 12foot skiffs, Jollyboats, Zephyrs, Starlings and Optimists.

The club takes pride in both the quality of its race management and its hospitality. A generous prize pool is contributed by local businesses and marine industry suppliers including The Refreshment Room, The Aussie Butcher, DNA Fitness, and more.

All are welcome, and any class wishing to travel to the event should contact the club as soon as possible to make arrangements. Last year the 12foot skiffs gave the Manukau a test run, and other classes are very welcome in 2013.

Local sailors will also be sailing to reclaim the Manukau Shield from Weymouth Yacht Club, based on the opposite side of the harbour.

French Bay Yacht Club focuses on family involvement, and offers a structured coaching program and racing for youth, as well as sailing training and racing for adults.
