Guest
Back to boats guys. This thing is brilliant. After dropping the main we sheet the boom way down to flake the sail and the glass rods just bend. Let the sheet go and it all springs back up, no topping lift. We have it set so that in a drifter the boom is held up high to promote twist. I actually have a couple of spare rods for sale if anyone else would like to manufacture the end fittings to fit one. Guest
This was also "Something found on my boat that is not on most others" Seemed pretty nifty at the time but the flop over mechanism was quite worn and I'm sure if it was all new, it may well have been a good idea. Gave a bit more access through the cockpit area. After dinghy sailing for too many years I just couldn't get used to the whole wheel thing so took it off and put a tiller on. Guest
And last but not least, this contraption for getting under bridges. Requires 2 poles, large eyes on the gunwhale and a car that takes the fwd end of the poles and is winched down the track to raise the mast. As Zen's mast recently gave up we're not putting the hinge back in but it was interesting and quite useful.
Clipper 343
yeah, those hinged mast mases always worried me when I was over in Fremantle. Fine on small boats, but 50fters dropping their rigs to get in the river? Jeeze.
