wheels 543
Interesting follow up story of the Charlie Gallagher tragedy earlier this year. http://www.stuff.co.nz/marlborough-expr ... gic-battle
Steve Pope 243
I welded steps up the back of the rudder just for such an event. with relatively high topsides it was an impossibility to get back on board.
banaari 27
Something to consider (courtesy of the RYA): Set up some tackle and then stash it somewhere, so that "in the unlikely event" you can winch someone back aboard without their active assistance.
smithy09 50
Yeah I read the article in Boating magazine and was pretty shocked that she couldn't get him back on board. Not having a go at her skills, just genuinely surprised that once she got a rope around him she couldn't winch him over the stern.. It's quite a sobering lesson alright!. The other recent example of how quickly a crew member can get exhausted was Shane Kirkman when he went over in that Fiji race. rossd 16
Gosh, such a lot to think about and learn from. Not least of which he was sitting in the cockpit and washed overboard.
Sailorboy 0
Forget about recovery. Just don't go over the railing/lifeline. The point being to have harnesses and use them, with an effective system of jack lines and tethers that keep you on board.
