Zoe 8
Ahead of posting it on the website, here is a look at the entry list for Ports of Auckland Anniversary Day Regatta. Thought seeing who's entered might hook in a few more boats, especially for the island starts. It's shaping up really well and fantastic support from the classic fleet. Enter at www.regatta.org.nz (and you might win a trip to Hawaii... have I mentioned that before? Guest
Nice crowd at Mahurangi for the Classics. We were having fun until the bailers (mechanical and human combined) couldn't get the water out as fast as it was coming in once the brezze picked up. I suppose being 66+ years old allows you to be a little stroppy
Zoe 8
So that's the benefit of a modern boat then. I have to say I love seeing the classics out, they are just gorgeous.
waikiore 398
Some reflections on Mondays Auckland anniversary day regatta, After heading up to Mahurangi Friday and competing on Saturday (successfully, first two master) sailing home sunday and doing the tug boat race Monday. I always do Mahurangi as it is well run and I see the boats (and people) that I enjoy . Increasingly it appears that these are the boats that the public want to watch as well. Auckland : Very disappointing to see three yachts take the start in the keelboat first division, despite TV commentary on the news I doubt the size of the regatta on a world scale. Even the second division only had about six boats one of which started a minute early, with the exception of the tug boats there was not much for Joe public to focus on. (yes I am ignoring the dinghy classes at their respective clubs.) I well recall the seventies and early eighties with all the Whitbread boats joining in it was a real spectacle from all vantage points around the harbour. With Bay week keeping a few away, and the passage races appealing to many , I cant see it changing really. Hey I am asking for thoughts not knocking the organisers-- last year I entered all four races Mahurangi and Auckland. But this year sailed on others boats and had a ride in the tugs. Perhaps we could have a fishing boat race tied to the Seafood festival on Monday as well? As long as the vessels were Bonafide commercial fishing boats -- I think possibly I could arrange some sponsorship. Was great to see the old V skimmer out again Knot me - looked quick with your light weight helmsman!

Great idea with the fishing boats, I'm sure some of those skippers would lave that along with the punters. Yeap we had a lightweight crew on for the day... i.e. only the 4 fat bastards, 3 really as one could eat a few more pies, as we don't think she'll handle 6 at the moment. Man oh man the floor moves something rather scary.... but there has been a plan developed that will hopefully grunt her up yet knot change the appearance in anyway.
Guest Saturday Night Special
They used to have a Fishing Boat race Back at the turn of the previous century it was called the mullet boat division
