A Class Cats

It's a very exciting time in A cats.

Every conceivable solution to foiling an A is in Auckland right now with flexi C, removable hull case cube to fit an L, boring J foils, canting cases, self aligning bearings to suit SJS foils.

Rudders are some sort of derivative of either T or L and some with no wings.

The foiling everyone does that I have seen is more like a lot of unloaded skimming and skipping clear and occasional bursts of lifting completely clear of the water.

It isn't always the fastest way either in some conditions it can pay to sail a better vmg course especially if you get a few shifts.

So far in training we've had heaps of really breezy days and so it's almost certainly going to be a light airs affair and some of the older less tricked designs are dynamite fast in the light.

It's going to be a fun two weeks

80 A cats are racing at Takapuna.

The full fleet won't assemble until 5th Feb as the reserve is needed for a triathlon.

But all the overseas boats are at Taka now in the car park over the road.

The NZ boats are spread between Team NZ base , devonport, wakstere and Milford.

I've noticed the ones down at Milford. Had a bit of a nosey, cool boats.

I saw 3 sailing this afternoon in shoal bay, in no wind getting some drifting practice.

Looking forward to the event.

Hi Anyone know where results/updates are being posted for A class nationals, day one today. Cant see any updates or results anywhere?

Tried these:

http://www.sailingeventstakapuna.com/

https://www.facebook.com/TakapunaBoatingClub

http://www.takapunaboating.org.nz/

Looks like a star studded event, 1/2 of Team NZ as well as my neighbour in the competition!

Wx was gr8 in Nelson yesterday, but bit breezy up North. Which of the web sites is supposed to be posting updates, as none of them said no racing, or any updated info that I could see. What's the URL for results??

Is there a link to results that is not Facebook initiated?

Seems the organizers have no results page.

just follow the top link and click on the wording above the photo, and hey presto

Thanks FNG. I completely missed that.

Are the foiling boats winning/dominant or the conventional boats?

I can see why Barker pulled out. Tuke and Ashby are dominant and looking real good.

You really think the reason he pulled out is that he might be beaten by fellow ETNZ sailors? Ashby has won the worlds 7 times, pretty sure he would always be favourite to beat Barker. I am confident that is not the reason.
