  1. I thought crew was a forum, not a blog?

  2. Shame on the the Harbourmaster who reportedly issued a $200 ticket to AM for exceeding 5 knots within 200 metres of another vessel. The cynic might say - easy pickings but not me. Pity there was no such enforcement over Anniversary weekend when there was real endangerment by speeding vessels of all kinds in various anchorages. . Many would have been thrilled to have been aboard the ferry and chipped in for the fine. Typical selective enforcement ?

  3. Go for a snorkel with the schools of 10lb plus snapper and shoals of trevally at the Poor Knights to see how reserves can work. We swam with a turtle there this Christmas for 15 minutes or so which was a first for me in New Zealand. 30 years ago we caught good crays at Waiheke, scallops in Oneroa and there were schools of kingfish at spray rock. It needs a rest for sure.

  4. I'm not that good on the history but hasn't this regatta been a key part of Auckland's racing calendar ...... Feltex Regatta, BMW then Jack Tar? Someone fill in the gaps. Covid has definitely put some extra fleet number challenges in the mix for organisers but if ever there was an opportunity for Auckland's large race fleet to get on the water this is it..... underwritten by largest clubs, local, relatively inexpensive to enter and compete, a format for everyone, great opportunity to go hard out with race crew or intro family and friends, plenty of social events in great venues, weekend

  5. Harbor master can only be shamed into action - that is about right. The number of people going through the AM Cup spectator fleet last weekend at well over 5 knots was crazy.

  6. We all use VMG as a proxy for VmC in the same way we use gas as a proxy for petrol even though it is a liquid. over time language adapts based on convenience or laziness not accuracy. until about 10 minutes ago I’d never heard of VMC.

  7. https://www.maritimenz.govt.nz/commercial/safety/accidents-reporting/faqs.asp Says commercial but I think recreational report to Harbour master?? All near misses/mishaps are suppose to be reported but who wants to be tied up in red tape?
