  1. This is an issue that’s prolific throughout NZ regulatory landscape. Imprecise wording, shoddy writing and half arsed ideas followed by egotistical idiots and a massive lack of professionalism. Not everywhere, but certainly often enough to make you go “WTF!”

  2. Torqeedo is a quality product which is widely used on commercial vessels in daily use, including our own safety boat. The warranty is two years, not one year. Our main product line for yachts, launches and commercial vessels is Combi. If you want an outboard to last a lifetime and pass to your grandkids then choose Combi. Torqeedo's big boat range is more aimed at performance (lightweight, high speed, high price). For a planing boat, superyacht tender, a very small dinghy or a racing yacht I'd usually recommend Torqeedo. Combi started supplying electric outboards 41 years ago. The ou

  3. SCAME fittings are the "default" option in NZ https://www.firstflex.co.nz/product-category/scame-plugs-connectors/ these are designed to be in the weather, both for IP rating and plastic type, but better if you can locate it in a locker if possible. You should buy an IP67 rated inlet.

  7. Good luck explaining that to a coroner. Either it's a regulation or it isn't. Your also supposed to comply with OSR but they are different again. This has been pointed out many times but it doesn't seem to register. There is a long way to go before I would call it simplified.

  8. This comes under the section preamble making it a suggestion. Skippers should consult their sailmaker and designer to arrive at the best sizes. The sizes given below are maximum suggested sizes only and should be followed only after due consultation. So get your sail maker/designer to document what your correct/optimal storm reefing point is before you change to the trysail. Re pyrotechnic flares, the requirement stems from COLREGS. You wouldn't be the first (or last) to suggest that the UN updates COLREGS to allow EVDS devices.
