  1. I'm only a part time gynacologist aardvark, but I can take a guess I've been most enjoying your accounts of the joys of boat ownership, antifouling, engine removal, needing a particular tool you don't have in order to finish a job, finding more urgent maintenance to do just after finishing a whole lot of maintenance. You are like a billboard for all the joys of boat ownership. Can't wait for you to actually go sailing.

  2. Speleology is the scientific study of caves and other karst features, as well as their make-up, structure, physical properties, history, life forms, and the processes by which they form (speleogenesis) and change over time (speleomorphology).

  4. I'm picking Stepping Out has an old-school system so it will likely be fibre. There is a grease packing device fitted (very simple screw crown fitting) so I figure there is no real need ot go all high tech and fancy low friction. The Reserve Bank of Fosters actually has quite reasonable pricing on fibre product by the metre so if no-one violently objects I'll probably go that way.

  6. Engineering suppliers generally carry it, certainly AES, maybe Paykels. Otherwise any of the Beaumont St bandits (or wherever they are now)

  7. should be able to buy from marine shop. 6mm or 8mm from memory, when fitting should get 3 rings in and do not line splits up. plenty of grease.should drip when motoring but not when stationary.

  9. The ritual of putting grease into the gland and screwing the crown down is good for my soul. And having just spent 45 minutes getting the bloody engine aligned onto the shaft while contorting like a cross between a speleologist and a gynecologist ,the drippy seal is staying!

  10. If you havent already got a dripless shaft seal, now would be a good time to fit one.

  11. Simply not realistic to put large commercial / construction projects on hold for 3 years. And what is that likely to achieve? Linking the blatant mismanagement of fisheries to blocking already consented marinas? Further, this marina is not constructing any breakwaters, not shifting any spoil etc. It is an entirely floating marina. So I'm not sure where you are going to get all of this sediment and heavy metal from that is going to smoother everything? This same emotive response comes from a lot of people about land development as well. There is a formal planning process, everyone pay
