Which is also what was said on page 2 of this thread - the MRs need to be of a certain size to avoid the edge effect (people fishing on the edge). How many more reports does the government need saying the same thing? At least the Rahui's just get on with it - no beauacracy.

  2. You always had to satisfy the director of maritime that the boat and crew were suitable. This assessment was, and still is, delegated to the YNZ inspectors. The wording could be improved, especially re foreign vessels, but it seems the standards are recommended only for them. As it was previously. The form of advice of intended departure is new, but does not seem particularly onerous IMO.

  3. I think you'll find that a rahui INCLUDES prohibition on iwi use. In fact I'd say they are more likely to observe it than your average reactionary pakeha.....

  5. Was certainly a pretty hard day on the water with light and shifty winds, big tide and a few restarts. We (Tamatea) lead around the first 5 marks but then us and Orion got caught out playing with each other and let the Green boat (cant remember its name) through on the other side of the harbour. The 3 of us were quite close for most of the race but then the long run down the harbour agaisnt the tide with 5 kts of breeze brought the other boats into the game and Limited edition managed to sneak through the other side of the harbour and take the lead only to loose it on the last mark rounding b

  10. It was a joke Fish. If you boat long enough you will help people out for sure. The Tobago Cays one was interesting however as all the Kiwis and Ozzies yachties rushed to help, and, no one else. They just watched.

  12. Agree.something needs to happen now but the issue for me.will this set a precedent and other Iwi closing areas off with no consultation what's next ? Local beach locked off for Iwi use only
