  3. I was in Hokitika a little while ago and looking at some historical info. Apparently they use to lose around 1 in 10 vessels trying to enter. The whole coast around the Hokitika river is very shallow, and I would think that sailing ships would be praying for a decent westerly to give them plenty of steerage way.[ and a high tide!. The Grey is simply frightening when the river is running due to rain, with incoming vessels having to fight into about an 8 knot flow. Takes a long time to cross. I now realise why nearly all the fishing boats in the harbour were big ones! Mind you- I saw a skip

  6. The Recovery Position I later learnt that one of the things we did that evening was kedging. This was interesting, because I could do it without knowing what it was called, and it turns out I did it pretty bloody well. It was probably the only thing I did well that night. As SO slowly listed on the falling tide, we tried all the stuff you see or hear about. We gathered at the bow and tried bouncing the hull with the engine in full reverse. Hilarious, but useless. Bro and I swung the boom toward the now-correctly-identified channel and climbed out to the end of it. No re

  7. Father in-law had a heart attack at home, mother-in-law caught him as he collapsed, then performed CPR and phoned for ambulance, 15minutes later firetruck arrived followed by an ambulance, fire fighters took over doing CPR, ambos got a defib on him then off to hospital, we were told very small chance of him coming through it without brain damage. 5years on his jokes are as bad as they ever were. His wife knowing and performing CPR saved his life.

  9. Looking at the picture, it is far more likely they hooked their inflatable with the hook... I note they had an EPIRB with them, and several cell phones, so phoned police. Still no justification in that story as to why flares should be mandatory for Cat 4 & 5 racing, in the inner Huaraki Gulf. That is a fair bit different to going off the west coast, launching off a surf beach, and err, puncturing your inflatable with fishing gear. Good to know they were prepared. The value of doing your own risk assessment, and not relying on third party rules, like YNZ stuff. A few h

  10. have had a number of calls from people looking for 1020's over the past six months, aside from the ones on Trademe I also know of two others that are on the market now, one a very tidy ex class champs boat more cruising orientated now, and the other a more recent multiple class champ boat that is in reasonable condition. if you want more info or owners contact details then PM me.

  11. Navigation Marks, GPS and the Wisdom of Wives The Wairoa River is a narrow muddy creek filled with cow piss and estuary water. It meanders its way from the bottom of the Hunua Hills, past Clevedon and onward to the sea picking up mud, cowshit, and a not entirely savoury smell as it goes. The river squeezes out, like molten toothpaste in the words of Neil Finn, pushing through a typical inner harbour mud and sand bar before finally relaxing and fanning out into the Waitemata. It would be SO's home at Brooklands Boating Club about 1.5km from the river mouth. Hell of a change for a y

  13. This is true if the courts say its vexatious. I understand they now have. That's how it works. I don't at all disagree with your other points and would go further - there are those who use the process as sport.

  14. It did, via the Environment Court. The rest is just vexatious litigants. This has been going on since 2016. I fully agree it needs to stand close scrutiny. But there is close scrutiny, sore loosers and people who blatantly don't understand the process, and when they should be engaging with it.

  16. Dont know who you are quoting but it's still nonsense. Remove the prefix and see if it still makes sense. Even worse is pre board. Is that where you get on a plane, then get off again, then get on properly?
