  1. Back in the day there used to be the Farr 38 Nationals. We were motoring back into Westhaven on the Saturday afternoon (on Otway 3) and watched Jenny G getting towed in behind Alan's launch at 23kn. The bow wave was up higher than the boom! Amazing sight. Alan Gibb's launch was the Lassiz Faire with 2 x 1000 hp motors in it. Warwick 60?

  2. Well the first proper race Daydream has done in a very (!!) long time - and no major mistakes really other than being overly conservative getting off the line. Shimmer (the other t34) got a jump early on but we managed to stay within reach out and back and got right up to them beating to the light house - almost picked the lay of the Rangi light house from out by the container ship ,just came out a few lengths low - hand bearing compass does work - win Boat went sweet (like a 3rd crew mate) Sails were mint (thanks Josh) and have given the boat the right feel, course was cool, learnt heaps

  6. Who hasn't had a boat starting with P suddenly pop out in front of them? We've pretty well decided that they should have stopped designing yachts after the Stewart 34. They had it right.

  7. We had a really fun day on the Rogue II. Was a voyage of discovery for us learning what makes the boat go and what sails we actually have. No idea of the sail crossovers as we hoisted 2 old gennakers we had never seen and a new code zero that we had only checked to see if it fitted so the reach down to the noiseys was a bit painful changing between gennakers and code zero to find something that worked. The guys who had decent small flat gennakers made good gains on this leg. Watched Phil on the deep purple blast past us on that leg like we were standing still! They looked fantastic and rounded

  8. some advice I received from Bill "overall man of action" Falconer re these shifts, try and keep them covered when moored and keep the red button from the old unit as a spare (if still in 1 piece), these are a very common failure no doubt due to weathering

  9. Was working in Westhaven when Pier 21 building was first built - for marine related activities - yeah right. Could not get tenants that fitted profile (surprise surprise) and was suddenly full of advertising companies, a de facto pub on ground floor and various bit players a few of which were possibly marine related. Like the new bar/nightclub moving into the new building ex J marina carparking - marine related? Insidious but relentless, the facility that was originally funded by boat owners buying into the concept of a boat harbour for boaties through the old Harbour Board has be
