  1. I keep my charts with 1 fold in plastic portfolio envelopes, mine came from Perth years ago, you might find them in an art supply shop. As for charts, assuming you have all the Gulf Charts (532 etc), I suggest you could add NZ 52 for the big picture and NZ 5214 Marsden Pt if you were likely to stop inside the heads. The catalogue is here https://www.linz.govt.nz/sea/charts/nz-chart-catalogue-list-view

  3. 8 months on from purchase and we made it back up to the BOI. Even knocked most of the things off the wife's list including pressure hot water and shower! What a game changer the extra meter on waterline is. I spent 14 days in total on her, wife and kids 10, even had a friend and her kids stay for 2 days and nights (7POB), came home with still frozen food in bottom of freezer and water in tanks. I'll call that a win!

  4. Immediate phone call to rangers. I fail to get this "don't be a nark" culture. I'm happy to "nark" on pricks who think they are above the law.

  5. The Panmure 2 Handed 3 Legged race is on again this year. Saturday night will be at the KBC. We have booked the back bar for this race. Looking at doing an Adult and Under 18 division. Great for a parent and under 18 year old son or daughter to do this race. Let me know if there is any interest in this idea. More details to come next week.

  6. Can't remember the last time I used a paper chart for anything. I have a handful on board as a get me home, but wonder why sometimes.

  7. I keep them in their original plastic envelopes in my chart plastic bag in my chart drawer, was surprised how often I referred to them this summer, but was cruising a bit of the Coromandel that I am not that familiar with, prices still on some $3.55 that gives you a clue how long I have been using them, and as i have explained to various crew over the years it takes ages to grow a new rock. Still like Navionics on the phone for quick reference.

  8. Just use plastic folders as IT does but store in purpose built chart storage rack.

  9. My favourite game is to load up my trolley(s) and only look at the gate, walk to the gate. If i stop to check for cyclists, scooters, dogs, ill never get there. The marina was built for boaties. Who pay obscene amounts to keep their boats there. Public are welcome to walk around, the area, but not welcome to hold up access to my boat.

  12. Seems to be so much worse recently? The ****ers parking on the beach and on the grass in the reserve near us recently... what an entitle bunch of wankers. There's no shortage of narking but getting the council/AT to do any enforcement takes some doing.

  13. Hi Ballystick, here are some photos of when we did up 'the General'. She was still red with the name 'Jenny G'. very race, rallied and rolled - if you could point at it, it leaked. First memories of taking her away was just after we got her - night race to Kawau... bailed her out before we left, as she leaked like a seive. Brought a handheld compass, and a chart for navigation....I recall halfway through the trip Joe going down and asking why his bag was floating, so much water ingress... then it rained like hell when we got there and had to pull a sail over the deck so we didn't get we

  14. Answering my own question. I'm not sure the guide's "rather small" quite covers it.

  15. As a surveyor, I only use a hard (steel) hammer below the water line and on teak decking. Nylon hammers are used anywhere else. We are listening for voids in the grp laminate. Still the best way to inspect. Second method is with the moisture meter as well and obviously, visual. That gelcoats getting tapped hard to fracture like that, however, without being there, it shows older, thinner gelcoat, and voids under.

  16. BP advised that the fishing was good in Hooks so after slowly heading out into the Gulf from the islands of Coro the sea breeze came in last Tuesday and we tacked back to lay Hooks , broke my record line in water 30 seconds and we had dinner very efficient and all whilst still under sail!
