  1. It was a wonderful evening at Scotts, everytime I go there ((haven't missed it in 20 years) its always good. Full tide, warm easterly weather, very settled conditions. The best yacht regatta in NZ.

  2. Yeah they do. We were in Parapara Bay Saturday night and there were two dogs being ferried ashore regularly to crap. One yapped for 45 minutes early Sunday morning before the owners in a Genesis (rafted up to a Wavecrusher, both Whitianga boats) took it ashore. I've a good mind to get some dog sh*t and flick it in their cockpits next time I walk past.

  3. A Bicycle mechanic once said to me a bike is a frame and a collection of parts, the quality and condition of the parts defines the bike and the riding experience. Its an oversimplification of course but it also applies to boats. ie if the mast, rigging, sails, electrics and engine are worn out then all you have is a floating liability that will endlessly frustrate you and your partner, probably wont do much for the relationship either. Other commentators here are right, borrow the money if you have to and get a vessel that suits your needs,if you can't afford the loan then you might have to

  4. Cheap boats don't usually end up being cheap boats. Agree, buy the best you can afford.

  6. So if there is no cost difference between 3rd party and full, why not just get full insurance? that is available. Is the problem survey's etc? I expect they apply regardless of the level of insurance. The bulk of the risk is in cost of salvage. It may be that someone that only wants 3rd party are seen to not care about their boat (in the eyes of the insurance co) and that in itself is enough to put the risk up. I can see a behavioral thing there. Checking the boat regularly, fixing little issues, keeping up regular maintenance is what in reality reduces insurance risk. Only wanting 3

  8. One of the cheap liveaboard options is ferrocement. The boats are typically very well insulated, quiet and have a settled motion due to the weight. Ideal if you intend live up an estuarine river somewhere and not do too much travelling. Not as many around these days.

  9. In your price range just skip insurance. I've never paid for a survey, on my 4th big boat now.

  10. That's a very good point , easy to buy a cheap boat only to find it converts to a steep premium, sometimes with nasty exclusions.

  11. Bigger and more comfortable does not mean less maintenance. Quite the opposite!

Cool great, yeah, you know me I've been with you since I was about 8 and you offered those CashIsJustCrackForKids accounts - yeah, the no fees, no interest ones.... Anyway, because you guys have been handing over money for houses like you are Santa Claus in the Cadbury factory I can't afford a house, so I want to live on a yacht - can ya gimme, say a 100k? Hello,  hellllllloooooo...  are you there?"

  14. She is its scirocco , just check her out end on, my partner sailed on her as a kid, and a friend bought her 20 years ago and sold the mooring for twice as much as the whole deal, but that was prior to a professional boatbuilder completely rebuilding her and expanding and modernising her.

  15. If you are going to run a new fuel line, chuck in one of those priming bulbs for an outboard motor. About $20 bucks at Burnsco I think. They make bleeding and priming an absolute breeze. And also much, much faster, if, say, you need to bleed an engine in a river mouth with a fast incoming tide and 20 knts up your jacksy.

  16. So they are going to have to change the name from "Seize the Day" to "Seized by the Day", "Seized by the Bay" or, "More than Seized".

  17. For those that saw the post on this boat previously I want to update that it has all been sorted and everyone is happy. Thanks to a Crew member here, this boat was located, and the owner turned out to be the second owner since it was sold, he was unaware it hadn’t been paid for and being a top bloke helped to get it sorted. Thanks to Crew.org what a great community we have.

  18. look for unloved or idiosyncratic yachts. Case in point: https://www.trademe.co.nz/a/motors/boats-marine/yachts/keeler/listing/3436430999?bof=QOOpYPx3
