  1. At this point Id like to remind members that we did have summer this year, Pretty sure it occurred on Monday this week when everyone was back at work. Here's proof; Spent the night at the Happy Jacks and here's the view at midnight looking up;

  2. Simple fishfinders should still be OK, they will give you the depth and the bottom contour line gives a good indication of the depth change trend in a visual graphic form, an ascending line will indicate shallowing which is often better than numbers changing rapidly. I find it very useful in Tauranga harbour which is full of sandbanks. If your hull is solid glass you can glue a plastic (Sistema) container to the inside of the hull ahead of the centreboard, fill with glycol or oil and place the transducer in it. The transducer can be machined down to reduce it's size to fit. Attached is a cheap

  3. Wow, I didn't even know this was still a thing! Years ago (like the 1970's) they used to have a Ladies Race in motor boats. My mum won it at least once. I believe the last time they went, she was the only entrant, and they cancelled the ladies race from then on. They had a condorcraft 15' Deep forefoot cathedral hulled bowrider, with a 50hp Evinrude on the back. It was calle Raurimu, after the street they moved into when they sold the farm. 7. I built a new exhaust manifold and mixer from stainless 2 years ago. I made a template from PVC water pipe first then fabricated from off the shelf bends. Worked out well and no issues so far. Bends and tube from Steel & Tube Stainless. Price was reasonable and their rep was very helpful. Had a mate help with welding. Only downside was the time it took but I had no other option as the old manifold was badly corroded and no original replacement available.

  8. I was stopped in the Kaipara, while doing a channel edge cruise, seeing and marking just where any off shoot channels were for future use. A flash (a state of the art, every bell and whistle fitted) $$$$ ?? fizz boat headed my way, they had to come alongside as my ears don't work so well when i'm sailing by myself. It was a fisheries patrol. 2 guys and a woman, they were surprised to see a yacht in the Kaipara, they didn't think there were any! I wasn't of interest to them as I wasn't fishing. Very tidy, uniforms etc. Nice and friendly, but I could imagine that could change rapidly if you had
