I suppose it stems from the days when Fizz boat designs were sailing hulls with an auxillary, literally Motor Yachts. I'm not sure how many modern design have been judged to have good aesthetic qualities, its in the eye of the beholder etc I guess.

We need to know who all the players are here, who has conflicts of interest. How is it that a heritage haulout area that was upgraded by the council for 3-4 million in the late 2000's is now being taken over by a club for parking to the detriment of the wider yachting community. I had a chat with someone from the harbourmaster office, they mentioned about 100 dead and dying boats that need to be disposed of right now in Auckland! Taking these facilities away by temporarily elected board members who are unaffected is shortsighted and will make that situation worse.

It would appear that in today's world there are two separate activities. Sailing and yachting.

Today on the Gulf;

Part of the attraction of the colonies in the 17- and 1800s was that nobility didn't own the hunting grounds, rivers and seas. So a very real part of our history was the arrival of people who looked forward to a right to hunt and fish for food. Maori had already established that right in their tikanga. So we definitely DO have a birthright in the ability to hunt and fish for food. The question is how to manage that without reverting to the aristocracy of old Some would say that quota holders are the new aristocracy. I couldn't possibly comment.
