  1. Unfortunately licensing will have zero effect other than a cost borne by us. We already have rules against bad behaviour , but there is effectively zero enforcement.

  2. I have literally just taken these off the boat I am refurbishing and are for sale. No issues with them that I can see, appear to be in good condition. They are 130mm in height, about 150mm in width to the outer lip and come with handles. Handles are just under 360mm long Using what I have seen over the years for these Murray winches on trade me as a guide, offering them for $275 ea, or $480 if you take the pair. Not willing to post, so prefer an Auckland buyer to pick up, though if you are not in Auckland perhaps a mate visiting can pick up. PM or mob: 0220 485 474.

  3. The Landing already has the appropriate washdown and stormwater treatment facilities for the boat yard and this is one of the reasons people are prepare to fight for it. It has a diverter for the washdown pad that sends the wash water to sewer when the waterblaster is in use and stormwater when the pad is clean. The stormwater from the whole yard drains to a sand filter to make sure no contaminants get into the harbour. The Yard worked hard to get a "Blue Ribbon" Environmental accreditation to show how clean it was. Westhaven Marina also got the same accreditation. During the c

  4. FYI the same Orakei local board had voted against raising their rates a few years previously. Also, from what I heard, The Landing was actually returning "non rates revenue" to the council so it wasn't actually a drain on public coffers (and therefore a closure is NOT in the interest of improving the council's fiscal outlook)

  7. The problem with licensing is the cost of administering it, the new agencies set up to police it etc. Who's paying? Its either through licensing fees which will never cover it so general taxes. For a tax averse society that doesnt even want to pay for vital infrastructure etc are we going to be happy to pay for more policing of a pastime with a very low accident and mortality rate? This kind of incident is fortunately very rare, compared to road accidents where up to 10 people die every week in horrific circumstances. This is media hype, like plane crashes which are also rare in the gra

  9. Condolences to his Family. Been on that boat many a time, and only this Bay Week stood and watched him dock, tie up, unload, load and leave with no assistance. Marvel to watch such well ingrained skill. Let the slow wheels of justice begin to turn I suppose.

  10. Theres boats that orams won't lift due to multis being wierd sizes, i.e. too wide for the smaller travel lift, and not feasiable for the big lift. There is also the wider local auckland boat servcing capacity that has been significantly downgraded in the last year or so with P21 gone, LSB basicaly gone and now the landing closed. I don't mind paying to haul out, I just want to be able to !

  11. A big part of the issue was the local board was responsible for setting the haul out rates, but hadnt updated them for years, hence the yard was very cheap to use, but struggled to cover its costs. Nobody is objecting to a price hike to bring it in line with other commerical operations

  12. Hi all, from the skipper. Yacht was at secure anchor in Pohutukawa Bay, Rakino when struck by extreme weather event at around 2040hrs 9/4. Dragged rapidly onto South Island in very high winds and sea. Huge shout out to Rescue Services - Maritime Coordination Centre, Auckland Coastguard Maritime Unit and especially Westpac Rescue Helicopter crew who winched crew to safety in extreme conditions. All crew shell-shocked by severity of event but now fully recovered. Mourning loss of a fantastic yacht. Salvage mid week. Thank you to all who have sent support
