  1. I watched it. Pretty lightweight, and basically blaming boat traffic for the spread of most of the issues. Virtually No discussion at all about effectiveness of antifouling, hull cleaning facilities, tidal drift, storm flotsam, or any other means of transmission. The next one may contain some of that... If we do not get involved in this, then more costs are going to be levied on us, as we are, as they say in the video above, "low hanging fruit" and an easy target. There was no scientific evidence given of transport vectors for the pests, it was taken as given it's the boats.

  2. The spread, to so many destinations, to me makes it look like the weather and tides moved it, not a boat....

  4. At the end of the day nature will have "her" way. Current army worm invasion in Northland, loves eating maize / corn, any green vegetable, etc. etc. MPI suggests it came in on the wind from Aus,? not a mention that it could have also come in on imported seeds, fertiliser etc. No mention of anchors so far!! They have only just found Caulerpa because they havn't looked before. We will find that it is far more widely spread and will, within a couple of years be looked upon as another immigrant that we don't necessarily want but will have to learn to live with. Think possums, deer, rabbits, rat

  5. They have a MTOP... If you look on the transoms on the hull deck join you will see a MSA number on each boat. Photo below is a few years old... but they are still in survey and have MSA no.s today.

  6. Sorry may have misread the post. We have moss exemptions for our club owned chase boats

  7. That's the issue. Its a pretty big risk for anyone offering their boat, being a skipper, or any club. There is a mechanism to do this (and official approved exemption) but it seems not easy to organize. It's actually in everyone's favor to encourage training and education, but IMO this is quite a stumbling block. Does look like the only real way to do it is for a club to buy a suitable boat/s, and have an exemption...

  8. So it's all over the BoI now. About another dozen or so sites confirmed to have it. This is going to be a clusterfuck. What are the odds that anchoring and fishing will be banned across the BoI this coming summer? I'll start at 3:1

  9. Brief report is that it was worth going, at least from my club's perspective (Mt Maunganui). Wasn't anything dramatic presented. A little of stuff from Maritime NZ on when their rules apply - as we all know registration and safety compliance under their Act doesn't affect pleasure boats, but if you charter (rent) your boat or tender to your club to use in an event it becomes a commercial vessel and subject to their scrutiny, so don't. Mark Orams was interesting - he's a great speaker, but the best of the day was the lady from Lion Foundation Gaming Trust - a total livewire and kee
