    Water in bilge

Try a cut down ice cream container under the stern gland. It'll soon show if it's dripping.
  2. So, BP. Time to fess up, what did you do? Nuff time has passes to protect the innocent.

    Interior Paint?

I'm thinking that rolling the lining would be better than spraying. Thoughts on this?
  4. Yes, did the hammer tap thing. Thought it was bloody tight then. JB...bog up where? Is that between the two parts or where the ends of each of the bolts are? Do some of the latest anodes have something like a stainless grub screw to the shaft to keep it in contact with the shaft?
  5. It seems that every year after going back in the tide around 3-4 months later the anode on the prop shaft has worked loose. No matter how tight it is when put on. I guess it's doing what it's supposed to do. .. wear down. Does everyone have this problem? Is there something I am not doing? I assume that it has to be tight to work properly.

    Interior Paint?

Good question. Can't answer, but interested to learn of suitable paint to cover vynyl headlining.
  7. Love my Spencer32. Right about extra internal space re the hard chine (excusing the general design) but a comfortable cruising boat. Not great for speed though.
  8. Should state the missing details. Fully fibreglass dinghy.
  9. Sunk the dinghy. Sad. But got it back. Happy. Don't want it to happen again. Seems the air tight compartments in the seats are not so airtight. My though is to cut holes. Insert some polystyrene and top up with expanding foam. Then glass back over. Thoughts anyone? Just use construction type foam in a tube?
  10. Three options for a call sign....you can get a call sign by doing the course or you can get one that might go with the boat (when you buy) or you can get someone else's and transfered into your name (Which can be done online)
  11. I always wondered. Now I know.
  12. Another question if I may be so bold... my welder suggests it would be a good idea to attach a tag to the tank and have a wire to the engine block (to the anode). The pitting may be from electrolysis from a nail or something under the berth. Thoughts anyone?
  13. Great thanks. I have the tanks out so should be no problem.
  14. I have a couple of pin holes weeping in stainless tanks. Is it possible to float on a stainless weld over these?
  15. Sorry to be a dodo but I have been following this thread. Just to be ssure can you define 'alloy' tanks? I take it that it doesn't include stainless steel?

    stern gland

Yes. The packing is cut into three x 360 degree pieces each fitting around the shaft. The three joints are offset 120 degrees from the previous piece. We didn't grease the packing but don't see any reason why not. I'm sure you get a few years out of it.

Do you have the right two spanners?

Did mine a few years back. Not sure how often they need doing. Not sure if it's best to do on the hard (we were). Not even sure if it is possible to do while in the water. Not a difficut job... A little fiddly. Where are you currently?
  19. There's a place in onehunga. Henderson rd for memory. They can cut you a bush. You'll need a vernier to get an accurate measurement. I'm off to kawau tomorrow so won't have the details until I get back.... can you wait?
  20. Yes. Great place. Lovely tramp to mt hobson. Hot springs in the creek from the track off whangaparapara road. 21. Cheers. Mitre 10 has essence of salt. I believe another name for hydrochloric.
  22. Just removed the stainless steel tanks to clean etc. No inspection ports. Any tips on how to wash away decades of grime?
  23. Need to replace/repair the dinghy trolley. Got a bit of spare galve pipe that would do the trick. Before I cut it up would it be okay to weld?
  24. Hey, if I said Id do it, I don't need reminding every 6 months. The gutters WILL get done!
