    New Sails

Very good question. Thinking along the same lines. Have looked locally, and seen some prices, then looked off shore and seen a little over half price, delivered, Inc tax. Love to buy local but the 'ole buck' talks.
  3. Shouldn't that have a bolt rope?
  4. Thanks wheels. It wouldn't have anything to do with the boom track being attached with stainless Screws? There were nylon collars but the ss screws go into the mast itself.
  5. Ali mast, keel stepped on to an ali plate on keel. Looks like electrolysis on base plate. White powdery stuff with pitting on the base plate. Any ideas why? Do I need to run an anode from the base plate into the bilge?
  6. Try Firecorp, Neilson rd. They have signage with a gas bottle on it.
  7. Rawhide... going back to the issue of finding one, I got a short fat bottle from a place on Neilson Street near the end, close to Mt Smart. Can't recall the name of the company. Try Google Earth?

    New dodger

Yup, exactly what I did. Unpicked, cut and restitched on my own industrial machine. When I got the holes punched... don't use any ones from hardware store get them from a marine upholsterers... the guy ran his machine around a few edges of mine but worked well. Have even had to replace a side on occasion thru wear and tear.
  9. Caulking dries and falls out after so much time on the hard. Same almost happened to my brother who had a traditional yacht. Took several days of near constant bailing for the wood to swell up and become tight again. Good on this guy for taking the time and effort to keep an old boat going.
  10. I guess if they are stable and secure on the shaft they will keep doing their job of wasting away?
  11. Is there any use for second hand ones?
  12. I'm getting half a bucket full of em. Every year a new anode goes on the shaft, when the old one is maybe 30 per cent wasted, at most. Does everyone replace theirs annually? Is there risk if you don't, and let it go to say 60% wasted, replacing every two years?
  13. Cheers. You know what the circle one is for? Current commodore?
  14. I'm after info on the retired commodores burgee. I have several types available for presentation, so want to get it right. I think the retired commodores burgee is swallowtail with either a Maltese cross or a circle in the lower quadrant. Can anyone confirm, cheers. Or is it the commodore and rear commodore burgers I've described?
  15. He has an Athol Burns 36 up Tamaki river with motor issues, he needs a tow to a new mooring near Kelly Tarltons way. Willing to pay for time and fuel, anyone who can help please pm me.
  16. Got a charter in Croatia later this year. Included is a fee for underwater survey post hire. I guess that's fair, but wasn't done after I hired a boat in the sounds a few years back.

    Takeing on water.

Shane, there are three sizes of stern gland stuffing. Once you back off the locking nut and undo the gland you will see what size... width stuffing you will need. What size diameter shaft have you Got? Mine is 1 inch and I have the middle size... can't recall what it is, around 4mm for memory. Fiddly getting the old compacted stuffing out, use tweezers or a dentist hooky thing

It's been about 5 years since I have last done mine, is that a long Time between Changes?

What is people's opinions of doing this while still in the Water? Doable, or wait until on the hard stand or piles? I'm guessing there will be a bit of ingress of Brinney but what is too much.... and don't say that which can't be dealt with by the bilge pump....
  20. They will want to know where you intend keeping her.... marina or swing mooring, which will make a difference in the premium.
  21. Yes, still going twice yearly out of RYC a fun afternoon. Pm me if you are in the services... of any description.... and keen for a reason to get out
