    Shore power

Okay, so the more I read on this the more its a worm hole of different advice and I think opinion. If I were to install a shore power system to run my charger 24/7 and the charger would ideally be in a power point so I could you the power point for the odd other thing. Exactly what do I need, include plug type, ratings? So online examples would be great... [i couldn't find 5000.1 compliant three conductor cable online with a quick search]

    Shore power

Does shorepower have to plug in to an external socket? Or can you plug it in on the inside of the boat? Also are there minimum requirements for the shore power lead? And what is a good length? If there is anything else you think I should know about shore power connections please feel free to mention them.
  7. There are plenty of Techs locally or worldwide that can look after your server remotely for not a large cost. You will likely find someone on the IP Board support forums, who is familiar with this software that would do it? If power outages and rebooting remotely is a concern, wire up a GSM relay for reboots and make up a UPS. Or if you would just prefer hosting I can recommend adcl.co.nz
  8. You could host it yourself with a Synology NAS with data protection, or if you have lots of traffic and want a lot of functionality, email PCtraders.co.nz and by a ex lease machine that will make a powerful server, just tell them what you want to do and answer there questions. Also you will need a reasonable internet connection with a static IP address, ultimatebroadband.co.nz biz fibre, has no data caps or orcon, its a extra $10 a month for a static IP on a residential plan. Neither of those suppliers shape your data to suit the load on their networks.

    Solar panel

Could also be corrosion in the wiring. Is there a sticker on the panel showing specs and do you have a multimeter?

    New chartplotter

Well unless you want to use your phone/tablet which works really well to be honest. A simple chartplotter like the Simrad Cruise 7 is a similar size to your old navman. Comes with charts and looks super simple to operate and install. https://www.boatingandoutdoors.co.nz/product/4638/simrad-cruise-7-navionics-cart--83200-transdcuer/ https://www.simrad-yachting.com/en-nz/simrad/type/fishfinders-chartplotters/cruise-7ausnz-nav83200-xdcr#prl_what_s_in_the_box

    New chartplotter

How do you use your boat? Race, Cruise, etc? What is you main use for it? Do you have any other instruments on the boat? What was your last one?
  12. Sunpower Flexible panels have a 5 year 80% output warranty. Which is as good as you are going to get really with a flexible panel.

    sea fleas

I have encountered Sea Fleas at Limestone Island, off Onerahi, Whangarei harbour. Vicious little buggers.
  14. Foreign flagged vessels have no requirement for CAT 1. But I believe you could be stopped from leaving if your boat is a heap of crap and there are some serious concerns about its sea worthy-ness.
  15. The Skipper (Horse) was living on a debilitated motor launch on a mooring near Port Nikau at Whangarei. Known for his tall tails and frequent consumption of electric puha. I had meet him a few times and I would suggest he has very limited idea of what he was doing. My GUESS...is he got scared and didn't know what to do.
  16. Victron Centaur Charger for sale. Cheapest retail including gst I found locally was $1700. Most are over $2000 new. $800 + shipping and its yours. See marketing blurb below. Attached is a data sheet and actual pictures. The Centaur range of battery chargers features auto-ranging input covering 90-265V AC @50 or 60Hz input meaning they can be used anywhere in the world. Perfect for offshore boats. Crucially, and unlike many other products that state universal input, the Centaur range will maintain full output power within the entire specified range. Other features include fully automatic
  17. Has anyone had experience using the Mastervolt software to adjust the parameters on their alpha pro charge regulators? Do I need a special dongle or is a direct connection to a ethernet cable? If a dongle does anyone have one for a one of use or adjustment....or for sale?

  19. Those Isotemps are set for 80 degrees C internally and have a mixing valve at the outlet that mixes with the cold water to produce 55-60 centigrade hot water. Its the equivalent of a 50litre cylinder with the 80 degree temp and it matches the coolant temp of 95% of marine diesel engines.

One of these → https://fostersshipchandlery.co.nz/collections/rope-jammers/products/cleatjammeduimblack on the mast and off centre, so as soon as you wind some tension on the halyard line it simply pops out and moves slightly to the side. Works excellent for me once I figure the correct position out with lots of double sided tape.

    Rebuild vs Replace

Oh hell yes it needs work and will be getting some reinforcing and a good tidy up. This boat was always a project..... The bearers aren't actually cracked [hard to believe i know] its grease and crap sitting on the tabbing. The tabbing goes to painted ply wood, which the plate and angle steel are bolted too and engine. Original engine was a small single cylinder and engine bed was never upgraded for the larger engine now in its place.

    Rebuild vs Replace

Thank you for the replies so far encouraging me to just go sailing. But, here are some pictures that show some of my trust issues with the engine and I hope there will be some extended cruising in my future so I would feel more comfortable if the engine was a known quantity. So I took these pictures today while I was disconnecting the engine from the boat and tomorrow I will hopefully lift it out. Also note on the pictures below the damaged power cables...these are non marine grade and the outer jacket has all but disintegrated and felt gel like because of a very slow diesel leak on t

    Rebuild vs Replace

I think Volvos get a unfair rap generally. I tend to agree the spare parts are a bit up there however. I will defiantly let you know how I get on with a rebuild and is parts4engines.com in the UK where you are sourcing your rebuild kit from?

    Rebuild vs Replace

Most of my Ancillary equipment has already been replaced in the last couple of years, except the raw water pump. I will install a Perama M30 engine gear driven type in place of my current belt driven unit with home made bracket which gives me the shits every time I look at it.
