  1. What about aquatic plants? There is a small black "tree" that is prolific in Northland and what a buggar to get off!

  3. Thanks mcp but can't find them? Do you have a link?
  4. Yeah, who needs ballast!!? But that's the 200ah one. The 100ah is 33kg still wouldn't want one falling on my foot.
  5. Got the same warning from Hitech Solar. Probably why those batts bubbled? Tried googling the Vectron batts but could find nothing. I did however track down these. http://sepbatteries.com/nsb210ft-northstar-blue-battery Available in NZ. What do you think?
  6. Lead Crystal or lead carbon (micro fibre)? Seems the "super capacitor" style of carbon nano tech on the earth terminal of lead carbon is better for charging? Did a ring-around and the two techs have different plus and minuses. I was warned we needed very definitive voltage and current control to charge lead crystal correctly. Not the same with lead carbon? Give it your best shot!? but do not let lead carbon drop below 12v.....head still spinning!!
  7. Anyone using lead crystal yet? R MARINE were in Whangaroa yesterday with a load of Betta LC 200ah batteries (bloody heavy!) and said they were replacing others on a gin palace that had deformed!!. I believe this is a problem with them? A lot of money to fork out for batteries that are that fickle with charging?
  8. Looks like one of Reid's Herreschoffs. He used to build them above where RDM is now. Unusual to glass over strip plank that requires corking? I would have thought the glass would crack over time.
  9. There are two types of Johnston pumps for these, we just changed ours and went through this rigmarole. One large, one small. Don't change pumps. The thermostat is designed to run with the smaller water flow from the small pump (which we have) and going to the larger one will over cool the engine creating excessive wear. Our impeller was 5 years old, still going but had worn on the face plate of the pump so was losing its effectiveness. New impeller now and face plate machined flat again as it had indentations in it obviously from years of running but do check that plate and use a gasket when r
  10. No dramas about starting and engine after a long time of not running. Been a truckie here and Oz and the worst Worst WORST thing you can do is shoot down to the boat and run the engine a little to "keep it lubricated" every now and then. Just leave the dam thing! It's not going to hurt it one bit. You will soon spot those who do, look for clouds of blue smoke. One thing you should do is stuff a rag into your air intake and sump breather when laying over for a while, do it when the engine is still hot then forget about it. The engine itself will be fine. Once had a chaff cutter on the Grampians
  11. Someone mentioned HHHHHOOOOCH!!?
  12. Isn't there a spare bridge in a west coast river?
  13. Would certainly help but you would be surprised how much very fine water droplets are in suspension when you buy distilate fuel. As the fuel sits unused, undisturbed, the water slowly separates.
  14. Used to take a hacksaw to Meola dump, cut the roofs off cars turn them upside down and use those, no tar required but a calm sea was! Growing up in Pt Chev... it's a wonder I survived.
  15. Yep. Originally at I thought "boat people!!" then I saw the vessel they were going to was a converted car ferry with a house on top and a MSA number on it. Was just trawling through some old files and found that one. Left us both gob smacked..."wheres room for the life jackets!!?".Enough said.
  16. How many can you (safely?) fit on a boat and a baby too?
  17. How many can you (safely?) fit on a boat and a baby too?
  18. Or Mussel Bay where they steal your anchor!
  19. The guys at Halfmoon Bay were OK, they had a young English bloke working for them who really knew his stuff but that was quite a few years back and lots of room for mast storage and have the gantry for removal so no crain hire. For memory, the gantry needs to be booked and was just $25 but that was about 2009.
  20. Thanks for that but a bit confused. Why do you need a other wifi unit? The wifi1 is ethernet connected direct to a PC so why the bullet unless you are using the wifi1 as a AP for other clients? Shouldn't the PC be able access the internet with just the wifi1?
  21. I'll stick with my 4G 4gig pm until NZ joins the rest of the world and starts offering cheaper access or even free as is happening overseas.the
  22. Please tell me more? 35 bucks for only 4gig from Skinny is a bit much so would be keen on a cheaper alternative.
  23. Luke got it wrong. Seems he was thinking something else so back to square one. Said he will do some research on it....? It must be possible to do this! The MFD uses the wifi1 to access on shore hotspots to update itself, WHY not a PC via the Simrad ethernet cable?
  24. Change that, now getting LOTS of help from Simrad. Haulted work as I am sure the crapanese cable is faulty so trying to get another. Luke said they have managed to configure one themselves and its working so once I get a better network cable will let you know Lats. Give you the settings if you want?
  25. It's on the loose...look for it at a fuel station near you! https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/111504451/foxton-turns-out-in-droves-to-farewell-michael-hills-luxury-boat-the-beast
