A dive flag may not be visible, but at 50m of another vessel you should be doing only 5kts anyway and how many do!? Thats what needs to be fixed and if that takes licences, registration or both I am all for it so long as its policed, the fees are paying for prosecutions and the fines and seizures going towards enforcing the rules. We have been hit THREE times, had our anchor pulled up and mooring twice (reason why we left the Tamaki River). There are far more vehicles on the road than boats on the water and apart from Auckland and Wellington, nothing is policed, not so on the the roads! Sure, its not a major issue now but boy is it going to be as our population balloons and everyman and his dog aspires to get out on the water in ever increasing sized vessels with little or no experience or ability with a total don't care attitude. If licencing at leased makes some aware of what damage their wakes can do or who is the stand on vessel then GREAT!

With our species breeding out of control now, we need a few Genghis Kahns! Although Trump and Putin seem to have a similar plan going?
(HEADLINES: ""Hungary to give women with 4 or more kids life tax exemption"). Another headline: ""Insects are disappearing - we're losing beetles and butterflies but we're gaining cockroaches" That's all we need, more politicians!!)

Deleted that post. Southernman got me thinking I shouldnt post until after second coffee! A little irreverent (have met them years ago) . I still stand by the fuel use of something like that when the world is crying about fossil fuel use.

Fishy is dead right. Got a stack of video of idiots screaming past us (could've handed them a coffee or thrown it at them as they went past...that close) in the Tamaki River off Little Bucks years ago. Harbour Master "we need to see them ourselves" even though several were identifiable. A friend in a 27 tonne ferro had a twin powered fizzy pass him ON THE PLANE believe it or not, in the main channel going into Marsden Cove! Went to the harbour master at NRC and nothing done. MNZ simply said "contact the harbour master".

Seems the "message" was sent several times and ignored. Habitual offender and 18 months not long enough.

Crazyhorse got a reaction from Rehabilitated in In 2015, a troubled sailor jumped overboard. Now the boat’s captain is being held responsible
He failed in his duty to rescue under common law in that the child is his responsibility so he is obliged to render assistance. Unless the effected party's predicament is a direct or indirect result of the actions of the person who fails to assist, there is no law here that makes that person liable. I don't think the US forces people to do the same. The skipper failed in his duty of care to at leased attempt to use whatever means are necessary to effect a rescue, either himself or by parties who can conduct such a rescue by alerting the authorities. I think he would have walked had it not been the damming statements made by the others which makes it an aggravated situation of neglect. Regardless of the circumstances, the court will see an experienced captain. It could have been argued that the crew on board didn't know what to do but he should have acted and failed to do so. He's going down! I hope we find out what the outcome is!

I am pretty sure if you could convince the regional councils and the government that there is a veritable fortune racing about everyday breaking any and all the rules (it feels like that at times!), all that revenue just waiting to be harvested by fines and seizures, maybe, just maybe some will start paying attention to speed etc. Licences just mean someone has had to at leased prove some knowledge of COLREGs or even the basics, isn't that a start? More and more vessels in the water and it's becoming open slather out there yet how many times do you see any patrol vessel out on the water other than main cities like Auckland?

Fish is on to it. We've been up and down lota and Tuts has a bit of a dog leg in the entrance and unmarked. Easterlies drive a big swell in and that too does a dog leg so wind turns you side on to it..left right..left..ri..you get the pic. Too shallow behind Philip Isl and up the arm, best spots taken by loads of moorings..typical. Makes the high marina fee worthwhile. Whangaruru is excellent. Lots of room and if you can duck in behind Motukauri no swell at all and loads of carrots. Avoid Whangamumu in an easter, we tried it once, never again.

A big plus there Mr.Fish. ours is double diagonal kauri and a glass skin, launched in 1966 and dispite various attempts over the years by other boats to sink her, shes still afloat. Very low maintanance, strong, cool in summer and no one I think will be building these again now the kauri is all but gone...or going, to China.

Decided to fire up the laptop and find a few pics. This is how ours went. 2011 we made it, still going strong.
