  1. A would agree with BP  regarding the Cav 32. The Lotus 9.2 would be quicker than the easterly on all points of sail i would think, having owned both a Cav and a 9.2. The 9.2 has far better accommodation and is a well balanced boat. For the type of sailing you are going to do, it would be hard to beat a 9.2.

  2. `You say you want to cruise the coast for 2 to 3 weeks at a time. That can easily be done in your Raven 26. In my younger days we used to cruise for 3 to 4 weeks at Xmas from Auckland to the BOI or Barrier with two kids on board. Cheap cruising in a small boat.

  3. Only been hit on the head by the boom once. Had just crossed the finish line and a crew member released the main halyard before anyone had pulled the topping lift on. Hit me fair and square on the melon, a bit of claret but nothing serious.

  4. I used Quila stain. Looks good and lasted 2 years. No sanding, just put it straight on and it looks great. When you need to recoat in a couple of years there is no prep work, just put it straight on.

Obviously you would have to sound for first coat.
