  1. You've got to love these long weekends. Not as good as anniversary weekend but still good. Climate change helps by giving us nice warm weather and sea temp.
  2. But they were good at it because they won on handicap. Think the boat may have been Rainbow 2. Go Rainbow go is a good read.
  3. Only used life jackets when going ashore when ours were little. We found having a harness was best in the cockpit when they were that young but i guess car seats have improved over the last 40 years.

I have reefrite with kiwi slides. Realy like the system with the hanks rathern than bolt rope. Easier to adjust luff tension.
  5. Seems like a lot of people have better employers than me as there are a lot of boats heading down the motorway to the bottom end already. Lucky sods.

    Blue lights

19 boats in anchorage with us last night, 5 with blue anchor lights. Definitely the new trend.

    Blue lights

This subject was raised some years age before the coastal classic and YNZ were the ones with the alternate interpretation. There were so many boats only running Tricolour and being refused cat 3 that YNZ relaxed their requirements for nav lights. The argument was it's a yacht race, we're not motoring, which I suppose in an ideal world is correct. I would think that if you looked around any anchorage you would find a huge % that only run Tricolour.

    Blue lights

Surely YNZ is interpreting the all round white light can be used in conjunction with masthead lights for steaming. The height of the sidelights only has a minimum hight, so surely you could class your tricolour as side lights. afterall they perform the same function.

    Blue lights

This appears to confirm what my understanding of the light requirements were. See clause 22.23 sub clause 3 [a] Masthead trycolour with alround white light if vessel is under 12m in length appears to be correct. If you don't have an alround light then you would require a steaming light above the red and green.

KM are you sure your gunwale level lights comply with colregs. Didn't think a R30 deck was that high above water level.

    Blue lights

I was led to beleive that you didn't require the deck lights if you were under 12m. The tricolour with anchor light was accptable for Cat 3. The 1m requirement was waived if under 12m.

    Blue lights

I thought that yachts under 12m could use the anchor light above tricour as a steaming light.

    Blue lights

I thought that most masthead lights had the anchor light as the highest light and is an alround white light. Are there other configurations.

I am very happy with the Evolution Tri-radial we purchsed a few years ago
  17. Is Blink officialy out of the S2H or not. Still named in the entrants list.
  18. You get what you pay for. A lot of good NZ reds out there but forget it for $20.

    Vor 2017

Looks like a good helsman to me. No drama. Couldn't hear any shouting.
  20. Are you sure a 3hp outboard is big enough for a 6m TS. I had an 8hp on a 6.1m TS and that struggled against a breeze and tide
  21. Will keep an eye out for you. Lots of options around that area.
  22. That whole harbour is a forgotten area. Lots of options around that area. Whenever we go there apart from long weekends there is hardly anyone there, maybe haif a dozen boats.

    Props

Maybe the Volvo prop is not the correct size for your vessel, I have a Volvo prop and find it great. Stops on a sixpence, with just a little prop walk in reverse. Maybe the boat is heavier than what the prop is designed for. The problem with not being able to pull full revs is that you are constantly straining the engine. When I repowered last year i was running a 3 blade Gori. With the new engine i could only pull about 400rpm less than max. Volvo would not warranty the engine unless a prop was fitted that would pull full revs because of increased load.
  24. I used to see people camping on the far north east corner of Ponui island at Xmas time. Haven't seen it for a while. Maybe if you contacted the farm manager it may be possible
