  1. had the combined weiti gh winter race.nice sunny 5-10knots. good close racing with it being abit too close at times. with a little bit of carnage! to put it lightly we were in the wrong and demolished the prod..

Wild thing was honking along and chasing a 45fter all the way to the finish. with whats news not far behind. But im sure we will get a write up form WT anyway..

even got some work done on the little 3.7 yesterday!

  2. Repaired a rather large soft spot in philstars hobie 16. All fixed now! Did some small jobs on the 780 and measured sails for our phrf for the simrad. now today I re-spliced the prod lines as one came out racing on sunday. Now their whipped! What else is there to do Philstar!

  3. Got Wild Thing back from the BOI. 16 hour trip all up. Got a surprise just around Brett when the bunk hatches appeared to be floating downstairs! On closer inspection it turns out we had a leak in the outboard well and we were taking on a lot of water. A top came off a fuel can and we added a bit of fuel to the 200L of water sloshing around. Bailed that out over a few hours and did some spewing. and haven't felt right since! Looking forward to the Route 66!

Thanks to Luke & Stephen for your help on the trip back.

    No problems mate

  4. it looks like a quick design downwind... but i think you might need abit extra weight to sail it in a breeze....

As for a over rated expesive dog? maybe expensive, but i dont think its over rated.

Id for sure want to test sail one

  5. Went Jav sailing on Sunday ............................... and nearly ran down some 3.7's

Shoulda come and said hello! but not run the slow red boat down in the process...

Now.. was you the boat that couldnt get the black gennaker up properly or the one with the white one blasting along at sh%#ing your pants speed?

  6. Had our north shore champs at Takapuna on Saturday and Sunday. Wasn't my best result but had alot of fun with a good turn out of 9 boats on both days.

On the Saturday we had a light Northerly sea breeze of around 10kts with Derek Scott taking out all four races.

Sunday came with more wind of up to 15kts with less sun and a bigger NE swell. this provided much more fun with full wire reaches for the light buggers.

top three places after two days of racing

    1st- Derek Scott

    2nd- Phil Ash

    3rd- Mike Jones

    Photos to come.

Also met Richard B down there aswell!

  7. this week iv successfully started a new rudder for the 3.7. a exact copy of the old one, just much stiffer and much lighter and will have slightly more board in the water.

    rudder.jpg

the old and the new. at the moment is around 700g lighter then the old one. not bad for my first rudder!

It still needs alot of fairing to be done, but im happy with how its coming along.

Then tonight im off to teach a certain famous sailors kids how to sail at manly!

Then tomorrow off to russell to bring Bump N Grind back home! should be a good weekend :)

  8. Not really this weekend.. More like last few weeks and today.. haha!

Well today's achievements were finally being able to get the 3.7 back in the garage for some much needed fixing... The transom under bottom rudder gudgeon had given up and also under the mainsheet base..

Heres some photos after the work.. It was pretty straight forward just laying up some carbon etc.. Not going to bother painting them yet as I get abit picky with the finish.. Thats for next winter...598550_2521102964390_74145503_n.jpg

And the other little project that has been going on in the crazy little garage is the old mans Zephyr. We brought it looking like this...

Then after alot of work on the hull it looks like this.. Before shot...

The the finished product after around a months of hard sanding/painting/sanding/varnishing/sanding etc.... Looks pretty good for a 50something year old boat!

  9. Went out I14 sailing, capsized then spent 20minutes on our side.. Then went out in the 3.7 and successfully broke the boat.. again  some wood in the transom under the rudder plate finally shat itself, and the ply and framing under the Mainsheet cleat also decided that it was a good idea to have a rant and crap out...

Now time to grind out the Bu#@erd wood and replace with carbon in the high strength areas.

    plan for the week:

Monday: Yachting nz have a go day.

    Tuesday: Exams

    Wednesday: Study/grinding

Thursday Carboning, Learn to sail at manly.

Friday, fit the boat out again.

    Saturday : Learn to sail

    Sunday: go sailing!

  10. successfully put some new cupboards and a bench top in in the laundry room...

Then on sunday had Weiti racing and didnt mess anything up on bow! Beat Wildthing over the line which is a once in a life time opportunity   Topped off by a awesome couple of hours on wildthing after racing!

New transom for both hulls incorporating new Carbon Gudgeons.

The new Gudgeons are mounted from the Inside of the transom through angled holes.

Inside the Transom they are Glassed over and the photo shows the Carbon over the new Gudgeon.

The Old gudgeons had peeled off the Old transom, on the Starboard side we hit the bottom soon after the relaunch.

The Port side fell off the Friday before last when we backed it into a mooring post. I glued it up quickly that night to do the Windward Leewards the next day but actually the Glue hadn't been properly mixed and it was probably too cold, anyway that is the one that fell off during Simrad.

Inside ther transom are some flanges and a knee down the centre, so by grinding off the old transom I can get back to that. (Next fine day). Then will glue the new transom on each side and tidy it up for racing on Saturday.

The boat has to come out in September for re antifoul and then I will have the chance to tape around the back of the transom and touch up the Paintwork.

    Very nice :)
