  1. Rotoiti Classic 21 November 2015 For this years Rotoiti Classic the courses have been selected to allow for more corners and tactical decisions with some different landmarks chosen to send the fleet around. We are offering short, medium and long haul formats and naturally allowing for some after race socialising. The 'Classic' course will come in three lengths, Short, Medium and Longhaul. The smallboat course is designed to allow smaller boats to compete and have a cruising feel to it. They will do one lap of the lake. The medium caters for the mid size trailer yachts and will be based
  2. Support the chemical toilet on small boats. Work really well on trailer yachts.
  3. Interesting overview of three of the MFD chart plotters here ; http://www.pbo.co.uk/gear/sailing-chartplotters-exclusive-first-test-21854
  4. Like I said, it shows the concept of the backbone (bus) with things hanging off it, how one may start designing such a network. I've not seen a similar image for a yacht. This guide from Garmin is also helpfull; http://static.garmin.com/pumac/Tech_Ref_for_Garmin_NMEA2k_EN.pdf
  5. Hi I found this image of use .... gives you an idea of how a network could be built. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NMEA_2000#/media/File:NMEA2000_Modified_motor_yacht.jpg
  6. It would appear its gaining strength. This has appeared in the latest issue of Nature; http://www.nature.com/news/developing-el-ni%C3%B1o-could-be-strongest-on-record-1.18184
  7. Returned to the boat today, copies of all the technical data sheets, SDcards loaded with the latest software etc. Powered up the system and the MFD starts beeping, low water alarm !. Surprise surprise the whole thing is working; it would appear the N2K fairy visited .....
  8. Thanks Matt The GPS MAP is at V4.40 and the GMI10 at 3.10. Both have later versions, so I'll follow up there.
  9. Hi Running a simple N2K network: DST800 sensor, Garmin GMI10 multi display and aGarmin GPSMAP421. Wind comes off Navman 3150, via 183. GMI is happy displaying wind, via 183 connection etc. However neither the GMI10 or GPSMAP 421 will show any devices in the 'device list' in the setup menus. I can see power on pins A and B at anywhere I look on the backbone, T junctions etc: this suggests all cables connectors are ok, there are termination plugs on end on backbone. I'm expecting to see the DST800, GMI10 and GPSMAP ( these later 2 in each other's list) in the device list...but nothing
  10. Hope to get up from Rotorua, interested in N2K networks. Will you touch on the Signal K Open source project an how we may soon get more from our phones an tablets ?
  11. Hi Phillippe Not sure where your based, I'm sure we have at least one in our compound at Okawa Bay, if you want to view one. There is some info here on the NZTYA web site; http://www.traileryachts.org.nz/trailer-yachts/designs/k-n/
  12. Pulled it apart today; it turned out to be a water bath for a former depth sensor. Thanks
  13. Mmmm, I sense the screwdriver making an apparence ...
  14. Thanks IT .. I should have mentioned that .. nothing appears under the hull.
  15. Hi This item is secured to the hull just in front of the depth sounder and speed sensor's. There doesn't appear to be any part number or other identifying labels on the black plastic. A cable leads off from it an disappears into the darker depths under the water tank/berth moulding ...... read can not be traced. Down the other end of the boat the only things that display/use data are a Navman 3100 multi, and 3150 Wind and a Simrad TP20 tiller pilot. It may have performed a function for the Navman's when they were useful. It maybe a compass for the TP20 as evidently they have a connec
  16. Personally I have found this to be a very challenging an enjoyable race, first you have to get out of Auckland, then across the gulf an around the corner, then through the merc's an the hole in the wall, then across the western bay....each with its own challenge. Many more options than the coastal, more technical. Easter has worked well as this is the end of Summer event, while the Coatal is the starting one. The starting day works to, as we still have most of the weekend available to sail in the lake as well, a traditional weekend for the trailer yachts to meets as well. November tends to
  17. Curious to know going rate for a new dodger... Ball park figures ?
  18. What did people think of this on TV3 last night. http://www.3news.co.nz/Ship-of-fools-Sa ... fault.aspx A well presented story about a rooky crews trip to Fiji.
  19. It appears the cost of shipping is the big show stopper.
  20. We have both Mk 1 and Mk2's on the Rotorua lakes. Popular as a cruising boat or on the race track. We have always had a few in our club.
  21. Hi There was a Mk1 and a Mk2, they changed around that time. The Mk2 has a stern scope, it was lighter an generally an improvement on the earlier model. From memory there was a change in the rig/ sail plan as well. They are good heavy weather boats. I think the builder was Wellington based, Darel Mcxxxxx ? Check the NZTYA web page for acting data. They were a popular boat. There are some with fixed keels as well. Hope that helps.
