    New dodger

If you are considering building a hard dodger as an option, I saw a H28 hard dodger mould advertised a couple of months ago on Trademe - it passed in. The auction has not been relisted but here is a link to the cached version. From memory it looked good shape-wise, but could have done with a little more care around the windows profile and the method of attachment - which is easier than changing the mould. Could be a good answer if you can somehow track down the seller to see if he/she still has it.. http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:DsR66U44T-wJ:www.trademe.co.nz/moto
  2. EDIT - According to YNZ, Jungle is an Oyster 61 and according to Stuff is aground at Tuvana-I-Ra and damaged

Great thread Mark and one I am interested in as I own Provincial Cowboy. Having spent a couple of years figuring out how to sail the boat in various conditions we have a pretty good handle on speed and weaknesses versus other types of similar size boats. We were fortunate that the boat came with a deeper keel and bulb and had also had work done to move chainplates aft and sweep the spreaders. I know what some of the other R40's have faced when changed keels and it's hard to justify. It's been really rewarding, we have had a lot of fun and a bit of success for a fraction of the cost

    sat phone

Josh, try charging it with the 12volt charger - there is apparently a fault with the software for some phones that prevents the 230v charger working unless you update the firmware. Mine had the same issue.
  8. Flowcoat? - NZ Fireglass Supplies in Morrin Road, Panmure/Glen Innes - open Saturday's I think. Very friendly, especially the big bird....
  9. Yep. She's been here for a few weeks. Very nice boat. Lives on a newly laid mooring off Glendowie Boating Club. Friendly owner, Paul, lives nearby. If you PM me I think I can put you in touch.
  10. Haha we don't need any excuse to trash talk. Paddy Wagon was on the market a while back, I have a set of polars that I was sent over from a previous crew member - we haven't gotten around to comparing them to ours. IIRC she has an older style keel and rudder. Once again a lot of people spoke highly of sailing on her. Was last for sale for around $USD85k. Photos of Paddy Wagon below: Also Jesse James is (or was) for sale, I think she is at Gulf Harbour: http://gulfgroup.co.nz/displayboat.php?list_code=9480
  11. According to PHRF this new bulb will make PC and the Marshall more or less the same weight. PC has not been weighed since we have owned her but we are operating off the existing PHRF measured weight she was shown at when we bought her. Since that time we haven't made any changes that would markedly affect that either way. If anything she might be a bit heavier due mostly to a much stronger and heavier boom. I would like to weigh PC on some accurate scales some time just out of curiosity. PC turned 30 years old on December. Despite their age they are great boats to race, cruise and own, t
  12. Had a look at the mods today. The boat is looking great. The new PHRF should be quite something And smithy, it's "shepherd".....

    Olympic results

470 lads now promoted from a provisional 11th overall into 9th (and make the medal race) due to protests upheld elsewhere....well done YNZ, all crews in top 10 Can't believe the Nacra ARG (Gold) crew did not get protested by Jury or other teams for ignoring the umpires call against them for a penalty turn following incident at final top mark - they finally did the turn halfway down the run. NZL crew a bit unlucky there ....great result regardless
  14. Provincial Cowboy SSANZ 60. SSANZ Race 1 2016. Not a great day for us really. Plenty of wind forecast so we reefed before the start and decided to be cautious. As a result we weren't particularly quick for the first reach out past Motutapu and run down towards Rakino. At this stage we were in close company with Lawless, Whitebait, Activator and a couple of other boats. I thought it was too dangerous to rely on the autohelm in all the big wakes where we could have easily hit someone so we aborted the hoist of a gennaker for what was a short run. Again a bit costly as we couldn't bridge
  15. From RAYC "Just a quick heads up. Miss Scarlet notified Maritime Operations Center at 0745 that they have broken their forestay. NOK have been advised. Their intention is to continue to Fiji. More to follow." Also "Itchy Feet has been in email contact with their NOK. All is well, they are in rough weather and will continue their course for another day, and as we suspected point their bow at Fiji after the front. More to follow."

  18. Hi I am looking for a cassette style rudder blade on which to base a transom hung emergency rudder set-up for a 12m keeler. A couple of people have suggested I look for a 8.5 cat or similar multi rudder whose set-up may have been upgraded. If someone has a suitable blade or a mould (I don't mind repairs as it may need to be strengthened and/or modified anyway) please PM me here. Any ideas welcome (except to use an E5.9 blade which has already been suggested!). Thanks
  19. That's two Ross 40's now and another quite likely to go again.... [Edit: now 3!]
  20. Yes that sounds right - I don't think we on PC were an hour ahead of Titanium, more like half an hour. And looking at the tracker, Gale Force shows to be finishing at around 1:48a.m. (but showing as 1:22a.m. in the results). http://forecast.predictwind.com/tracking/race/ryc Weird
  21. Hmmm. And Provincial Cowboy (us) finished an hour earlier than that time shown - as the tracker will show we finished just before 12.50am, a reasonable period ahead of Titanium. Which I think will change the handicap results quite a bit....

I think Smithy is heading back overseas to earn some more boat dollars this weekend
  23. Hi. Probably easiest to call HMB Marina direct as there may be something more suitable dates wise, they do have ours on their books
  24. Hi. We have a 12m berth at HMB that will be empty from aruond 28 December to 4 February as we are heading to BOI....doesnt really work with your dates but if you call the HMB Marina Travelift Office they will often make short term arrangements at that time of year as the berthholders let them know they will be away.
