Battleship reacted to Kevin McCready in Purchasing a liferaft for Tasman delivery trip and then selling it?
Stereotypical beliefs about the sexes reside in a specific part of the brain called the ventromedial prefrontal cortex. I don't like sexism and think it needs to be stamped out. And as a man I'm taking a stand with the #MeToo movement. Reform your ventromedial prefrontal cortex if needed, and always keep it in check.

Battleship reacted to Steadfast in Swirly world
This conversation reminds me of the various newspaper articles and blogs prior to Jessica Watson's departure. There were comments from various family organizations claiming that her parents should be prosecuted, she wasn't old enough to even get a drivers license, she should be doing her homework....etc. In essence these were efforts by well meaning people to inhibit others from what they themselves feared.

Why is it we feel compelled to condemn the adventurous exploits of others? Perhaps it's because those that dream cast a shadow on our (mostly) pretty safe domesticated lives? As sailors, or people who love the sea, let's not strangle the hopes and aspirations of others.

If you haven't read Wanderer by Sterling Hayden, here's a few sentences to whet your appetite.

"What does a person need - really need? A few pounds of food each day, heat and shelter, six feet to lie down in - and some form of working activity that will yield a sense of accomplishment. That's all - in the material sense, and we know it. But we are brainwashed by our economic system until we end up in a tomb beneath a pyramid of time payments, mortgages, preposterous gadgetry, playthings that divert our attention for the sheer idiocy of the charade.

The years thunder by, The dreams of youth grow dim where they lie caked in dust on the shelves of patience. Before we know it, the tomb is sealed.

Where, then, lies the answer? In choice. Which shall it be: bankruptcy of purse or bankruptcy of life? ”

He won’t die wondering if he can sail his little boat around the 3 capes..
Clearly he fears dying in his warm fluffy slippers with dreams unfulfilled more than he fears the 3 capes. That’s his business and good on him.

Battleship reacted to KM... in Israel Falau
This thread clearly shows the mistake Falau made. He commented on a very intolerant and bigoted internet full of delicates just looking for any reason to be offended. Had he not done that he'd still be just a good player in a second rate team so to the vast majority a 'Who and why should I care?'

I can't express my opinion any better than Willow has above. In fact I should employ him as my speech writer.

I don't approve of Mr Falau's comments I am indifferent to them he can believe what he likes, I don't care.

What does strike me is that the very same people who accuse him of being intolerant because of his comments are intolerant of his religious beliefs.

So why is it OK to criticize someone over there religious beliefs (as long as it's not Muslim)? But not disagree with someones sexual preference? What the hell is wrong with people?

All that statement very loudly screams is 'I did not bother getting the right one in the right size that fits me correctly, there for all inflatables are crap'.

From your description it sound's like you must have had a child sized one purchased from a $2 shop.

So your whole tirade is on the basis that you believe that Coleman managed to fool his fellow MPs and Government into spending less on health (facts already show spending was up, note I am not commenting on the quality of the spending) over an extended period of time so that when he retired he would have a ready made high paying job where he could personally benefit from his subterfuge?

According to you there is not chance that because he is a Doctor, with an MBA, with extensive experience in the health sector as both a Doctor and Minister that there is no other plausible explanation why someone would want to hire him?

Try flow restrictor, national, nz  KM. You could use one at times. Then we all could as it seems quite human.

National HAS screwed the pooch, on the premise that clean green NZ can just keep importing people (and disasters) to keep us solvent. I know Nat spent 25B+ on ChCh but that was a win/win for them with the reinsurers contribution into our economy and PR value. 'Cept a good portion was wasted, concreting our status as one of the LEAST productive in the OECD.

I voted Nat 'cos I basically didn't think labour had the experience, gravitas to govern, and so far
    am right.

Tomato sandwiches, the clock starts ticking as soon as they're put in the lunchbox, anyway back to wheels comment yes KM has a right to not vote and he has a right to babble on about how its something something, But the reason he is been asked the same question repeatedly is because he claims that not voting is a solution and that it represents a voting bloc or has some political power, moreover he has alluded to "knowing" something about the current systems broken inner workings and has a solution to it.

The wealth transfer is bs dreamed up by those the believe they are entitled. I am younger than Simon bridges and just older than jacinderalla, I have got sick of listening to friends tales of woe and being told how lucky I am to own a house.

Problem is I slogged hard to get it in the nineties while all my friends travelled the world. I took sandwiches to work for 20 years as that was all I could afford. Now apparently I am a rich prick that needs to provide free housing to those that don't want. To give up the sky that I have never had

That is your opinion. KM believes that not voting is the answer. Wrong or right, that is his view. RESPECT IT!
In fact, a large number of voters are "over it" these days and are not voting. So much so that we get mumblings from Politicians that perhaps voting should be compulsory.
The point is, Politics has changed. We are not getting what we are voting for, no matter what party we vote in. Think very clearly about all the things Labor said they would do, that they were " elected " for. Now tick off how many of those things have actually been done, or likely to be done. All we have so far is Twyford(housing) and Shane Jones(billion dollar handout) laying claims to things that were actually put in motion by National before the election.

So what do we do to protest? We do something that gets attention. Picketing doesn't work. Not voting for your particular local MP because they have been useless has also not worked and that is due to MMP. How can MMP be democratic when those that do not get a majority vote end up in Gvt? How can MMP be democratic when the party that gets the majority vote ends up being opposition.

I had stayed out of this thread for awhile because KM is right. Many of you are becoming quite condescending and bullyish. I became tired of it and stayed out of the pointless arguing. I suspect that replies to this will be such that I am likely to do it again.

If you can't see the problem how on earth do you expect to see or even begin to understand any fix or solution?

As I do understand the voter, I was one once, I will be able to understand when you explain to me how you think your vote has made NZ better even though all the important Stats and you yourself keep saying otherwise. So go for it, I'm all ears.

I'm confused.. I thought the Waka jumping bill was aimed at preventing politicians jumping from one party to another, potentially upsetting the balance of power between elections. I've never heard, seen or read anything about it allowing dark shadowy, wealthy private puppeteers to exterminate unwanted politicians.
Do you have a link KM or is this the sort of secret knowledge that is only available to the super enlightened?
