  1. Hi there people, Bad Kitty is getting an upgrade of nav gear, so all the raymarine stuff is coming off. 10 years old, but well cared for, & still fully functional. 2 E80 plotters Auto pilot, 2 auto pilot controls, 1 with dial thing, 1 std. 6 wind/data displays Radar MOB system with life jacket sender/alarm things. VHF radio with extra speaker. Mast head wind gear. 2 transducers to suit. Also 10" hummingbird side imaging sounder/gps plotter with transducer, approx. 5 years old. If you are interested in this maybe come & have a look, I'll be very realistic on price, so h
  2. Berth available 14mtr x 8mtr available at Hobsonville (Westpark) marina available for rent from mid Sept to approx 23rd Dec. Usually Bad Kitty's home, slumming it at Gulf Harbour for a bit. Any interest let me know, Ta
  3. Try Kilwell in Rotorua, they have lots of bits & pieces of cool carbon,
  4. And you can just use some of the money you saved on lead, to buy that nice diesel cooker!
  5. Diesel, or 240 volt & induction. That diesel thing looks cheap compared to a boat fire, repairs, & skin grafts. And sorry to disagree Beccara but a gas explosion on a boat is not safer than a fuel spill IMHO.

So I guess it's true, some boatbuilding products like epoxy & paint can cause long term brain damage!
  7. Well can't say I'm too surprised by this. When we built Bad Kitty 9 years ago we put about 25-30K of Raymarine gear on it. While for the most part it's been ok, there have been some issues never addressed properly by Lusty & Blundell. Small things, but really f#&*ing anoying. Like the boat speed will be reading in knots like it should, then it will just jump to km's/hr all by itself. Can't count how many times various L&B staff said "it shouldn't do that" No sh*t Pal, I know that, I want you to fix it, not tell me that AGAIN! Fast forward 9 years, still doing it. So about t

Well over the years I've let off plenty, lot's of expired ones coz that's what we use for training & never had a problem. And if I was on anything needing a rescue i'd let them off, 1 in each hand if I thought it would help. All these anecdotal fears that they will set you on fire, set the boat on fire etc. see a little paranoid to me. Remember, in the situation you are talking about, it may be the difference between getting found, or dying at sea.
  9. Is the rudder transom hung or up a tube, Could it be coming up the rudder tube? Gets pushed up whether sailing or motoring,
  10. I was waiting for someone with better technical knowledge to chip in but they haven't so here I go! Sounds fine, I'd go for it. Our 3di carbon sail lives flaked on the boom, no dramas. They are tough, so as long as you cover it it should be fine.
  11. Don't worry IT, you're in Open CPN lessons just got longer & more involved! We'll be talking,
  12. OK so who knows anything about sextant & celestial nav? Is a frieberger like this any good? Want to learn that old school nav & keep a sextant, for when the zombies come & eat all the satelites!
  13. The Vybar stuff is great, talk to Technical Equipment in Glenfield. The Foreman stuff is rubbish, just ripped a whole lot out that after 9 years is falling to bits & dropping the lead stuff everywhere.
  14. Setting a high bar there Sunny, if these guys like sailing & decide they want a boat like that!
  15. Sounds about right wheels, I'd call it maybe 0100 or 0200hrs Saturday, 2300hrs at Palliser seems a bit close to the 50 knot gusts, but then I am a bit of a sook about that sort of thing! Safe travels Pal,
  16. Bump, keen to get this out of the garden, how about 2 bottles of Mt Gay? Must have some rum in them!
  17. Jesus really, "hug the coast 200 mtrs off" No wonder our sailing is so wrought with stress & danger, we're doing it all wrong! So simple really, I can't believe I didn't think of it myself.
  18. Or freight the trailer boat up to Akl. and do some summer sailing out of there?
  19. OK even a drunken abusive home is alright then, anyone want it?
  20. Old main off Bad Kity free to a good home. Calibre Sails main, 9 years old, still got a couple of years in it I guess? Luff approx 15.1, foot approx 5.2 Usual roachy cat thing. Prefer good home to mean someone that can use it, but it's gotta leave home! Off 45' cat, battens available if you are quick enough before Vorpal Blade chops them up & makes a new foil/boat/hat/windsurfer or whatever out of them! Now gone thanks,
  21. Didn't think to get a photo till we'd dropped the jib, but seriously nice sails. Once we get out there next week I'll get a photo with it all up. I was thinking that I couldn't deal with pulling the angled batten out of a square head on a cruising boat every day, but North's put a nice set up on where the halyard tension pulls the angled batten up as the luff goes tight. So the top batten stays in, very cool.
  22. 3rd reef, it looks deep on a day like yesterday, yes. A while back, in 50 knots, boat speed 18-23 knots, I was thinking it might be a not so deep! Only ever had reef 3 in once so far, long may it continue,
  23. Must have been a good boy this year, the toys are rolling in already, Santa's sailmaking reps, North Sails spend some time on the boat this morning & look what they left behind!
  24. Yeah they're deathtraps Mate, Stay clear. My wife likes them & made me build one, I never go anywhere without my epirb, survival suit and a whole lot of safety crap tied all over me. It's bloody uncorfortable in the Tropics you wouldn't believe! And then when you're anchored they are so spacious & comfortable, with no roll that all your bludging mates come over, drink all the rum, & clean out the bacon in the morning. Building that thing was the worst thing I ever did. H28 would be the boat for you I reckon?
